I especially dislike the idea of auto-opening a new tab when clicking a tree node.

In a way that's the whole idea of locking tabs, so its location cannot be changed. But it's up to you to use either auto-opening a new tab, or asking the user what to do, unlock tab & changing its location or opening a new tab.

Ok, I thought about it and my disliking shrunk a good bit. But still: you are on a locked tab, click a tree node, a new tab auto-opens. Then you re-select the same locked tab, click another tree node, and again a new tab auto-opens, etc. So a locked tab will behave like a tab gun...

I'm still convinced it would help in certain circumstances to be able to lock a tab with all its settings.

I starting to get used to the idea of locking the location. But "all its settings"? So when you (try to) change the sort order you get a message "Sort order is locked!"? Come on...

Well for me locking the location is enough for browsing tabs, but for finding tabs I think all the settings of the find files pane should be locked as well.

Me neither! (btw opening new tabs automatically upon selecting a tree location within a locked tab wasn't my idea)
I could easily live with keeping it locked and leave it to the user to change to another tab or to open a new one.
(some hint that the current tab is locked might still be a good idea, maybe change the cursor when selecting a location in the tree to open?)

c'mon guys its a simple thing: you performed a shearch, got your results, click on a folder in the SR tab... and there you go,you lost it all. the idea is to keep these results (lockin SRtab by default)and open as many aditional tabs as desired form there. no messages no lockin home etc.

Actually you always "lose it all" when you go away from search results because TV3 does not cache anything.

Anyway, it seems everybody is happy with "lockin SRtab by default" meaning clicking on a tree folder in SR will auto-open a new tab leaving the SR tab in place and accessible to easy one-click revisiting the search results (which actually does rerun the search -- always remember: no caching).

I'm still waiting for more opinions. Still don't like the "tab gun" aspect of this...

This tab gun would not so bad. I support this idea of locking tabs via tab options menu. I don't sure if the default meaning should be "locked" or "unlocked", but this aspect is not very important.

Indeed it is some of the conception any Internet browser (MSIE, Opera etc.) has: you can open a link in the current window or in the new window (in Opera you have indeed three alternatives:
1) open the link in the current window,
2) open the link in the new window and make this window acktive,
3) open the link in the new window but stay in the cuurent window)

It woud be greate to implement all three options in TrackerV.

How do you choose between the alternatives (in Opera or elsewhere)?

i use maxthon.. it has the same tab capabilities.. normally is an option in the configuration dialog, but it does has buttons to easy access in the bottom tooolbar (right on top of the status bar), so you can easily change it while navigating. i dont remember about opera..

In MSIE you have two of Opera's three commands, absenting command is "Open in background page".
Ergo, Opera rules forever!!!

Such section could appear in TrackerV as a part of context menu not only for folders in tree pane, but for items (files and folders) in a search result list. Of course only when the SR tab is "locked". In essential aspect this would be the same as a warning message "OK to open...", but it seems to be a bit more convenient and usable.

However context menu opens when you use the right click on an item in list or three pane. But when when you click to an item by the left mouse button, such message could appear.

Thanks, Donald, I like this Opera-mode new feature indeed!

But does it mean, that you refuse SR-locked-tabs-gun-option at all?

And how about adding similiar context menu and/or keyboard shortcuts for items in result list to open them in a new tab or in a new tab in background?
