Granted, it doesn't happen very often, but here's what happened:
1) Found all files (interim build files) I wanted to delete in subdirectories with ?*.ext
2) Select all search results (CTRL+A) = 34 GB
3) Press Delete, confirm
Only 2 GB were deleted.
Can't delete more than 2 GB at a time?

Re: Can't delete more than 2 GB at a time?
Aha. I don't see anything in the docs about this and never heard about it. And I don't see how the size of items would matter with deletions. The issue might have other causes...
I'm using the Shell for deletions so this limit should also apply to Explorer. Does it?

Re: Can't delete more than 2 GB at a time?
I'd expect the same: you delete a number of files, but not the (physical) contents.
Only if, for example, you had a utility to delete the contents of deleted files (like "eraser") I would start thinking of the size of the files. But even then I'd expect no limit...

Re: Can't delete more than 2 GB at a time?
he said he used find to find files then selected the results, maybe that has something to do with it, maybe its not entering the other directory's and just doing the first one?
just a thought.
i don't have 37 gigs i can just delete so i can't try it heh.

Maybe when Don adds undo capability to XY you can try to repro this and beta test the undo at the same time.noir wrote:i don't have 37 gigs i can just delete so i can't try it heh.
Re: Can't delete more than 2 GB at a time?
I still wouldn't try it (unless it was junk data) since windows recyclebin only holds about 4~ gigs or a percent of your drive so if you delete more then that you will loose files.mwb1100 wrote:Maybe when Don adds undo capability to XY you can try to repro this and beta test the undo at the same time.noir wrote:i don't have 37 gigs i can just delete so i can't try it heh.
Re: Can't delete more than 2 GB at a time?
Just to follow up here, I tried to reproduce the issue a bunch of times, under a variety or scenarios, trying to isolate the case. Unfortunately, it takes a while for each case to reproduce since I have to regenerate a bunch of data (i.e. copy, copy, copy). I have not been able to reproduce it as yet. (But I haven't quite tried 34 GB again either...) Anyway, I figure it's a low-pri issue, especially since copying is handled by the shell, apparently, so I'll abandon my efforts for now but maybe it will reproduce again some time.
