Calculate folder sizes in background thread

Post by RPosta »

I would suggest that the folder sizes are calculated in a background thread so you can keep switching tabs quickly like in Dopus while the folder size calculation is not interupted.

Yes, would be useful. But currently a lot of other things are in the pipeline first.

Also what would be VERY useful (long Dopus favourite of mine) is to have a 'number of files' column. I mean, XYplorer already calculates the size of folders, why not also show the amount of files?

XY does show the number on the properties tab (if you check configuration / general / show folder size on properties tab). A separate column seems an overkill since the column would be just used for folders and be empty for files.

I'm afraid you are mistaken. XYplorer does NOT show the amount of files in the folder in the properties (also not when you set the configuration option you mentioned). There are 2 problems:
1.
The properties tab does NOT show the amount of files. When I set the focus on a folder, it simply states:
1 selected <size MB> (<size in bytes>)
Nowhere can I see how many files there are in the directory I selected.

2.
Even if point 1 would have worked, I cannot do anything useful with it. I have the option on which always calculates the folder's sizes (and puts them in the 'size' column).
Obviously, I want the option to see in 1 overview how many files there are in all the directories. Also, I can then sort on them.

1. In the Properties Tab on Info Panel (F12)
2. True, but my point (about mostly useless extra column) was also true. :)

Aha, I was looking at the status bar area of the info panel. If this information could at least then be added to the status bar area of the info panel it would help. Now I always have to do 'Properties' in the RMB context menu.

Thanks for clarifying.

As Don already stated above, just keep the Info Panel (accessible via F12) always displayed and off you go without the need for RMB.

Not enough place in the status bar.
