I'm using XYPlorer on WinXP. With Natural Numeric sort order turned ON, it sorts files this way:
olecli32.dll
olecli.dll
...
I'm used to the rule of "nothing before something" in sorting; that is, 'olecli' should come before 'olecli32'.
If I turn of Natural numeric sorting, it fixes this problem, but of course then "that other problem" is present, with file numeric names sorted in purely alphabetic order.
Is this just an artifact of Natural numeric sorting, or is there some way to fix the problem? Seems to me we should be able to have natural numeric sorting but with the sorting rule of "nothing before something" still in place. Otherwise, incremental search in the file list doesn't work as expected.
For example if I type "olecli" in the file list pane, the first hit is 'olecli32'...which is very counter-intuitive.
I realize this may not be a bug, but if not, please add it as a suggestion.

Re: Sort order and incremental searching for file names
I'm pretty sure Natural Sort Ordering isn't done by XY but the OS, so if that's how Windows does it that will be how XY uses it, and how most people might expect it/be used to it...

Re: Sort order and incremental searching for file names
That's right. And here (XP SP3) WE sorts it just like XY: something before nothing. I agree it's counterintuitive but I cannot change it because it's the system that does the natural sorting.jacky wrote:I'm pretty sure Natural Sort Ordering isn't done by XY but the OS, so if that's how Windows does it that will be how XY uses it, and how most people might expect it/be used to it...
