I've just installed XYplorer and so far it's good, but the tabs are not really useful to me; I prefer multiple windows for file management to maintain a better overview.
Would be nice if the tab area vanished when the window only contains a single tab. Currently they still take up space; admittedly not a lot of space, but the duplicate location information is a annoying.

Re: One Tab = No Tabs
Hi and welcome to the XY forum!
Have you tried turning off the tabs in "Window">"Show tabs"?
Btw, it took me a bit of time to adjust to using tabs, having come from Windows Explorer, but I now use them, at least 2-3, most all the time...it's something to get used to so give it a chance, ok?

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Re: One Tab = No Tabs
...ok, that made me feel stupid in a way I haven't for a long time. I had not looked in the Window menu at all. I assumed that since it was not in Tools -> Configuration -> Tabs then it could not be controlled. Silly me...
Anyways, yes I have tried tabbed file management, and rejected it. When working with and moving around lots of data in multiple locations, it is just too slow. CTRL-X ALT-TAB CTRL-V is simply faster. Also, I prefer having multiple folders easily available at the same time; tabbed interfaces is worst-case a 2-step approach where I want 1-step.
I've tried tabbed interfaces for my entire workflow, in Pidgin, PuTTy, Cygwin's bash, etc, and in all except Firefox it greatly slows down the access time and easy comparison of information in multiple locations. Well, I do have tabs in code editors as well, but those have split-pane view for when multiple files need to be edited simultaneously.
Anyways, thanks for the help. XYplorer is a welcome respite from Vista's native file manager (by the gods that thing simply resists any attempt to be configured).

Please note that dual-pane in XY is on the roadmap, so that may help out when it arrives...Well, I do have tabs in code editors as well, but those have split-pane view for when multiple files need to be edited simultaneously.
Also, please don't hesitate to visit these forums often as XY changes and improves quite quickly, and you can be a part of that, ok?
BTW, have you looked around at our great wiki? If not, you might want to, as it has a lot of tips/tricks that are valuable to new XY users.
