Pls. Drop Stack Feature
I am a long time user of XYPlorer ( lifetime ), but I wonder if you have any plans to expedite the Drop Stack feature which is incredibly useful.
I also use UltraExplorer in another machine, by the way.
Thanks.

Yes, it's planned. Could you shortly describe for what you need it resp. how you expect it to function?

Re: Pls. Drop Stack Feature
Just like UltraExplorer did with its Drop Stack. If possible pls refer to that.
You see, I´m in a photo printing business, its easy for customers to drag´n´drop the photos in there from different folders. On top of that, I organize my files a lot, and its extremely useful at that too.
Besides that, the slider thing ( magnify in real-time albeit low quality - scaling?? ) with the thumbnails in UE is another of my wishlist for XYPlorer.
Thanks.

Re: Pls. Drop Stack Feature
Okay, thanks. I don't know UltraExplorer though.
My (still unpolished) idea of DS (drop stacks) was tab-based. You declare a tab as a DS and then it's kind of detached from tree browsing. You add items to it by dragging them onto the tab header or by Ctrl+V. Contents would be saved between sessions.

Its very difficult to put it into words, but if can pls refer to UE, then it will do a lot of good. The other file manager with drop stacks is Cubic Explorer, both UE and CE have a lot in common, I wonder if they are linked.

I´m not sure what you mean there, ramza_x. I was thinking about a drop box where you can drop everything you need into it. The location can be below the treeview on the left. I´m not sure if the tab idea that admin was talking about was a good idea, since we have tabs everywhere in xyplorer.
Anyway, something is always better than nothing.

Re: Pls. Drop Stack Feature
Just guessing, but I think ramza_x wanted to show that drop stacks could be a tab in the info panel. Basically a container where user can drop items for whatever reasons. Idea is not bad since the there is horizontal space for more tabs. And as long as DS is available with one key push, having it in tab is OK. Hmmm... wondering where else it would be appropriate.GreenWhite wrote:I´m not sure what you mean there, ramza_x. I was thinking about a drop box where you can drop everything you need into it. Re: Pls. Drop Stack Feature
Oh I see. That´s not a bad idea at all ONLY if, one can drag it into the container/box as opposed to the tab header which will be very narrow and requires a lot of precision aiming.
We have to also consider ease of use.
Thanks.

Path Finder 5 on Mac OS X has a very usable approach. You can check it out in this video where they show the stack in action roughly 10% of the way into the video.

Re: Pls. Drop Stack Feature
Would you have a screen shot or two showing this or a link to a page where one can read docs about it? (I don't wish to d/l this seemingly large movie on my DSL)Mr Tequila wrote:Path Finder 5 on Mac OS X has a very usable approach. Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Sorry, for fear of having yet another message zapped by the admin I think I'll leave this one alone. The video is 44MB.

I wouldn't worry that much about this being considered a competing product, given that the product involved is a Mac (Mr Tequila wrote:Sorry, for fear of having yet another message zapped by the admin I think I'll leave this one alone. The video is 44MB.

Re: Pls. Drop Stack Feature
Okay, checked the video. My idea of DS was rather something like a Virtual Folder. It would also have a representation in the tree. What is shown in the video is rather meant for quickly collecting items from different locations and then act on them together (like moving/copying them somewhere), right? And you have always only one DS, and it's not retained between sessions?Mr Tequila wrote:Path Finder 5 on Mac OS X has a very usable approach. Re: Pls. Drop Stack Feature
I like the idea of a bit more control over what's in the stack versus what Path Finder offers. Giving it a full "folder" feel would be pretty awesome, especially across sessions. Path Finder can be a bit easy to "oops" where you accidentally dump everything from the stack without having performed any actions on the files/folders yet. No undo, which means you then have to re-select everything and add back to the stack.
