I'm quite looking forward to this (and also casting my vote in favor of seperate history per tab). Multiple tabs seriously are useless to me right now as I use the forward and backward buttons of my trackman a lot.
And others who commented about Firefox' way of tab-handling, I'm also in favor of that. I'm also spoiled by Firefox with the Tab Mix Plus extension. ;)

I've checked the 'what's new' but it doesn't look like it's been implemented yet. Is there any update about this feature? Multi-tab is still useless to me.

Not yet. I will make it known when it happens.

This will be great when you get to it! As it is now, I hardly ever use the history (unlike in Firefox, where I use it extensively) because I get too many unexpected results due to tab switching. I know I can use the pull-down history list to see what's there, but that's not very convenient, either, at least not for the way I use tabs...

Looking forward to it when you can make it happen! Thanks!

Right there with you. I love tabs and own a lifetime license, but it seems scripting is more the desired aim. I hope history comes, and it comes fast because without it hitting the back button on my mouse is always chaos as it's a habitual press from every browser I use.

Yup, that feature would be awesome to have and I hope it will be there sometime soon.
Anyway, with the current breadcrumb feature its pretty close to history per tab. Just that instead of hitting back button one has to hit ctrl+backspace. Also my favorite feature is to cruise along the tab's breadcrumb by simply double clicking on empty space. "double click on empty space goes up" (which can be enabled from Tools|configuration|general) and shift+ double click on empty space goes down 8) . Its not very useful as history itself because it can hold only one location per level. But still, some history is better than none. :D

Initial reaction: I LOVE IT! This will be a great addition, as it will make the history buttons much more usable for me!

I also really like your idea for "wrap-around" history -- this will also be a great timesaver!

I'll post more feedback as I use it more, but it looks great for now!

Thanks, Don!

First impression: Looks really quite promising as one would expect!! 8)
However, some questions:

1) Created new 3rd tab (normally just use 2 tabs)...it already had some items in it's history...where did they come from? And history for existing tabs is already separated...did it track them before this release internally?

2) Created new 4th tab...the dropdowns show this tiny box with just a dash in it...would have expected them to just be disabled.

3) No apparent way to show global history with just touchpad...maybe a separate optional narrow arrow icon for globals that can be attached to back/next? Yes, right-click is avail but that's still unnatural for me.

4) When large nbr of items on history (45+), it overlays Windows taskbar and XY title bar...should/could it be limited to be within XY window only at bottom and have top at tabs as others do? I'd rather scroll than have my toolbars/taskbars hidden. This also blocks me from reclicking on arrow to hide the history as it's now behind history.

Addendum:
5) Any reason why bolding of current tab entries couldn't be standard even when HPT is not on? It would seem to make it easier even for those who don't desire HPT.

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

One question about this: Is there a way to remove items from the history? As I'm thinking about the best way to use this, I can envision a work environment where I have a few tabs, each with its own set of items that I can cycle through...

Adding items is as easy as going to a new location, and it seems to me that being able to remove selected items could be a big plus...

*EDIT*
In fact, perhaps an extension to the "locked tabs" idea -- restrict a tab to a certain *set* of locations... This could be VERY powerful and useful!

List management allows you to edit it..delete/sort/etc...remember?

I had forgotten about list management, so thanks for the heads-up.

However, there's still not a way to edit each tab's history, which is what I'm specifically thinking of...

and I still like the idea of being able to set a default range of items for each tab...

I don't have the time to really play around with this, but I dislike the wrap around.

I very much prefer the setup used in most browsers, where Forward is only ever enabled if you have navigated Back in the history, and is disabled again if you rewrite history (by using Back and then going to a different folder than you would using Forward).

True...it's all blended in one big lump...which brings up the question: If one had 10 tabs going, would that mean that each tab's history would be somewhat quite limited as the 64 is total of all, right? Each tab would thus only get about 6 entries, I'm guessing, or some would lose all theirs when other tabs are used heavily.
avsfan wrote:and I still like the idea of being able to set a default range of items for each tab...
I can see this idea but as to how it would work...it would seem to be needed to set this option for each tab uniquely as you'd need to able to have some tabs that are limited and at least one that isn't, it would seem...but that's a topic for another thread, IMO.

Addendum/update:

I also think the wraparound idea is not a good thing...I'd prefer a hard and fast endpoint to know that I'm at the max.
