If i ever switched this on (menu Scripting | step through scripts) xy always steps through scripts, even if i switch this off or restart xy.
Any advices?

I cannot reproduce this, ticking/unticking works as expected using the latest beta. When you try to untick the setting does it get unticked?

Are you running the script through the "try script" dialog? This will always enter step mode.
