Column settings wrong with "Set Home"

Post by sklain »

Double-clicking on the "#" column automatically sets columns so that all the information is visible. Fine and good. The "Set Home" function is then supposed, among others things, to preserve the column settings. This doesn't seem to work properly: each time I then "Go Home" the "Name" column unnecessarily truncates longer folder or file names.

Is this a bug or do I need to change something in my configuration?

There was indeed a bug in the auto-adjustment of column widths, thanks! I fixed it and that should solve your "Set Home" issue (only a side-effect of that bug), too.

I downloaded the latest beta version (4.00.0193) but the bug is still there.

I cannot reproduce it. What exactly are you doing step by step?

Now a second bug as well

Post by sklain »

To document the following bug description, in a separate personal e-mail to you I've attached three screenshots.

Step 1
Open Tracker, click on tab, files partially truncated. (Tracker Screenshot-01.jpg)

Step 2
Double-click on # column to readjust columns properly (Tracker Screenshot-02.jpg)

Step 3
Click on any other tab, then click back on original tab; or alternately, exit and then reopen Tracker: in either case files are partially truncated again as in Step #1.

A new, possibly related bug
While reproducing the above bug, I noticed a new, possibly related bug: when I key away from Tracker to another program, the tabs all disappear. (Tracker Screenshot-03.jpg) The tabs come back when I either (1) resize the Tracker window, (2) click on "Eigene Dateien" in the left folder tree list, or (3) exit and then re-open Tracker.

Yes.

This looks like the old problem with very long folder / file names where TrackerV3 resets the name column width to the default maximum (256 if I remember). I thought it had been solved some time ago but it appears to have sneaked back in again!

O.S. is XP, TrackerV3 is v4.00.0196

Later: Just remembered, it's the "Column Width Auto-Adjustment" that defaults to 256. Turn "Column Width Auto-Adjustment" off and the very wide columns are remembered.

Yep, thanks!

Do you think 256 is too small? I can easily increase it...

Yes.

Is there a good reason to have a limit to it? Is there a limit to the maximum width a column can have? If it can display columns that are wider then I think it should remember them, regardless of the setting of "Column Width Auto-Adjustment".

If there are other side effects then the option is already there to turn "Column Width Auto-Adjustment" on or off, and the user can decide.

I removed the limit [not yet in v4.00.0199]. It was not really necessary anyway.

OH. Interesting... I must confess in v4.00.0196 the disappearing disappeared without any fix, so I thought it was a one-time compiler error. Disappearing never happened again to me since then... anyways, now I will definitely fix it. Thanks!

EDIT: should be fixed in v4.20.0002. Is it?

I've downloaded and installed the latest beta (4.00.0193), which partially fixes the disappearing tabs problem: the tabs no longer disappear if another less-than-full-screen window is activated; they unfortunately still disappear if another full-screen window is activated.

Uh oh, my face is red. Please ignore my previous message. I had downloaded the latest beta but forgot to extract the installation file, thereby reinstalling the older, previously extracted beta. Version 4.20.0005 fixed both the column-setting and disappearing tab bugs. Great! Fast work -- many thanks and sorry for the confusion.
