Allow browing of hidden folders via shortcut, hardlink, etc

Post by Sixx »

In standard explorer, if you enter the path of a hidden folder in the address bar, or if you create a shortcut or hardlink to one, then you can navigate to it without enabling 'show hidden files'.

In XYplorer though you get a dialog to say that you cannot access the folder because you opted to not show hidden items.

Would it be possible to make this optional? I often hide folders and use a hardlink to them placed elsewhere to access them, so as to clean up directory structure. But the way things are at the moment I have to have hidden items shown which defeats the original purpose.

If there is a hack, I could live with that :)

Yes, I'm not satisfied with this neither. I had done some efforts some months ago but it turned out to be too difficult. It's against the fundamental architecture of XY to show hidden items while the setting is against it. That makes a little wish a big task to accomplish. So while I agree with the idea, I can't do it right now.

Would it be possible to have an option to actually change the show hidden and system setting when attempting to browse to a folder that is hidden or system? It would be an automatic way of doing what I do now.

I think I tried that option and decided that it's too problematic.
