Unable to move backwards or forwards with mouse buttons

Post by Barcode »

Hi!
Just started using XYplorer, which seems brilliant so far. However, I noticed that I am not able to move backwards or forwards in history using the 4th and 5th mouse button. I've tried other file managers where this works so my questions is, is there any way to make this work? I am using a Logitech MX600 Cordless 600 mouse.

Hope to hear from someone, thanks

Hi and Welcome to XYplorer,

I dont know how best I can answer this because I dont have such a mouse myself. But I found this post where the user has a dedicated button assigned to go back.
So all i can tell is it has known to work, but maybe other users with multiple buttons can help you more.

UPDATE: Another Post here, which might help you more.

I've got a Fellowes 5-button mouse, and it all works as expected. (though I almost never use that functionality, as the history feature is pretty much useless to me until we get history-per-tab, which will be a great addition).

I'm quite sure that I didn't have to do anything to configure my mouse to work that way, though... Strange that yours doesn't work... Are you by chance running Vista? (lots of strange things seem to happen when running Vista)

Thanks for the reply guys. I read those post you linked to before, but am still unable to find an answer. Like you, I don't have to do anything to my mouse software to make it work in other programs. The only other program this occur is freecommander. Yes, I am running Vista Ultimate and it might of course be some kind of instability issue, but it will be hard to find out. I was really hoping to get those buttons to work as I use them quite a lot to navigate. Any other ideas? I really appreciate the help:-)

XY currently looks for WM_XBUTTONUP and WM_NCXBUTTONUP messages to get those so-called X-buttons to work.

Please download and run this little test app: http://www.xyplorer.com/download/MouseMessageTester.zip

Hi, thanks for your answer. I just tried the mouse tester and unfortunately there is no reaction when pressing the x-buttons. Only when moving the mouse or left/right clicking. Is there anything I can do to fix this ? Or is there no other possibility than changing mouse and software?

Many thanks:-)

If you say your mouse works as expected with other software the problem is obviously with me. I just don't know currently where to look.... :? In the Logitech MX600 Cordless 600 handbook?? Any other Logitech MX600 Cordless 600 users out there?

Make sure your number four and five buttons are set to "generic button" in the logitech software, which will make them send their underlying X-button codes. Most web browsers and such will take those for back/forward, but if the buttons are set specifically for back and forward in the mouse software who knows what they acutally do and what they'll work with.

And if you set them to "nothing", that actually means disable the button, not "don't do anything special with it". ^_^
