Happened to see this article http://lifehacker.com/397944/mdaxel-cre ... ers-faster and the sentence that got my attention was the one about how it has a pull-down of previously created names...so this got me to thinking...could XY do something similar?
The software in that article doesn't work on Vista, BTW, and I've not tried it, but just saw it as something that might prove useful in XY.
I've had to create similar named folders in various places, so having a set of prior ones as starting point could have helped make it easier...and task didn't lend itself to any current feature of XY, as far as I could see.
Idea: Keep history of "New" folder names for reuse

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

While previously used names for making new folders sounds nice, its somewhat close to XY's "new items" feature.
The only difference is that this new program creates names on the fly while in XY you have to put prenamed folders in "new items folder.
Not sure, if I will use it but in general a program prompting for previously used names sounds good.
So you say in rename mode user should be given a drop down menu?

That's what I thought when I saw it...one of those "Duh! Why didn't we have that before?" moments!serendipity wrote:Not sure, if I will use it but in general a program prompting for previously used names sounds good.
I would presume so...not sure how best one would implement that, given the current ideal usage of arrow keys, etc., but for new names, it would likely be easiest to do..So you say in rename mode user should be given a drop down menu?
And yes, we have the "new items", but that's static...this is dynamic as you create new names.

Actually i see that XY already has such an interface but for Visual filter (Ctrl+J) and Selection filter (Ctrl+M), so adding a similar one for creating folders (Ctrl+N ) should not be a problem, plus one has to have List management thing.
Actually, I am starting to like the idea. But I am wondering if such an interface should be involved only while folder creation or even during renaming? I guess former is best, right?

But how often does this happen? I think XY has enough means to handle such a situation IF it happens more often than one in a while. E.g. UDC "New": it's easy to set one up (10 seconds) including adding a KS (another 5 seconds).j_c_hallgren wrote:I've had to create similar named folders in various places, so having a set of prior ones as starting point could have helped make it easier...and task didn't lend itself to any current feature of XY, as far as I could see.
A MRU menu like VF is slicker of course... maybe later...
