Custom Keyboard Shortcut Issue

Post by phred »

Using 28.40.0612 on a Win10 desktop PC

I don't usually shutdown the PC but I did for a week when out of town recently. From day one with XY I've had Alt+N as a CKS for New Folder "New Folder". When I returned and fired up the PC, I found that Alt+N was doing nothing. So I set the CKS to Ctrl+N. It works as expected.

Trying this with a fresh instance Alt+N works as expected.

I have also tried with 28.40.607 and 28.40.600.

I'm thinking perhaps there's a conflict with Alt+N, but when I look at the CKS dialog and look at All Free Shortcuts, I see Alt+N. Why would it not work if it's not assigned to something else?

There has been major changes in the Info Panel in the current betas, so if you have it open when trying Alt+N that is likely your issue.

Thanks for the suggestion, jupe. However closing the info panel had no effect on not being able to use Alt+N as a CKS to create a new folder.

That's very surprising, are you sure you still have it set in CKS?, anyway I still reckon it is related somehow, we'll have to see what Don says.

It is still set in CKS...

But now it's getting really weird. When I F12 to close the Info Panel, all that closes is the Info Panel tab headers. This is also happening in a fresh instance.

EDIT: Rolled back to 28.40.0400 and all issues work as expected.

Yeah that's a beta issue too, major changes are happening currently.

With XY I'm usually an early adopter as Don's betas rarely impede my use. But these current Info Panel bugs will have me sticking with 28.40.0400 until it's all sorted.

This has been resolved with 28.40.0613.

But the Custom Keyboard Shortcut (ALT+N) still does not work with the Info Panel open. Closing the IP lets ALT+N work as expected. I hope I can use ALT+N with the IP open in a future update.

In the next beta you can use ALT+N with the IP open, IF there is no mnemonic n currently visible.

Btw, in WinUI 3 underlined mnemonics became out of fashion. But I will leave them in for now. Maybe make them optional later.

I would argue to keep them. Doing away with them is a mistake, as it forces usage of the mouse when actions could otherwise be done much faster with the keyboard.

Optional (user selectable) is always better.

@Don: Historically they already were optional. ie, StripAccelerators=1, it currently no longer seems to work though.
