2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).

Run-time error 91 when pressing Esc in Hover Box selection dialogs

Post by JDługosz »

XYplorer 28.40.0600 (64-bit)
Windows 11 25H2, build 26200.9711

I encountered an error when cancelling a selection dialog without making any changes:
  1. Open Configuration → File Info Tips & Hover Box.
  2. Click Select Item Types… or Select Context….
  3. Press Esc without changing anything.
Instead of returning normally to Configuration, XYplorer displays a dialog titled “shutdown”:
Run-time error '91'
Object variable or With block variable not set
Screenshot attached.

While the error dialog was still open, I collected a full process memory dump, thread stacks, loaded-module details, relevant saved settings, and executable version/hash information. I can send these privately to the developer on request.
To see the attached files, you need to log into the forum.
:info: Using Windows 11
:info: 3 displays, main is scaled 125% and others are 100%. The XYplorer window typically lives on a monitor with 100% scaling.

Can't reproduce. Given the slight weirdness of your other screenshots: are you running any 3rd party themes or skins on your system?

I don't know if it is related at all, but I have been getting the same error dialog, but it happens to me intermittently when I select "Edit Location..." from a BTB ctxmenu. (before the dialog ever shows)

I wouldn't think much code runs in that circumstance, so maybe that might help point to the culprit, at least in my case. I am inclined to believe it has something to do with the Glow Up header, since it only started after that was added.

Thankfully the error is non modal so I can perform a save before ok'ing the dialog, which then silent closes XY.

Can't repro any of this. But "intermittently" is always bad news because it means it's complex and probably Windows or 3rd party is involved.

Yeah I didn't think you would be able to repro, that's why I hadn't mentioned it until now, I have the impression that there is some triggering action during a session that sets the required conditions for it to happen, I will keep trying to find what that is.
