When many tabs are opened (e.g. 20 tabs) so that the tab bar does not show up all the tabs (e.g. only show 6 tabs at the same time), the selected tab will always be positioned at the end of the tab bar (next to a small part of the next right tab).
For example tab is showing 6 tabs from 10th tab to 15th tab. When I (at tab 15th) select the tab 12th, the 12th tab will move to the position that tab 15th was previously showed, and the tab bar at this time will show from tab 7th to 12th. Then I cannot re-select the previous 15th because it is out of the view.
Exception: When the tabbar is showing the 1st to 6th tab, tab selection works normally, selected tab stays at its position.
This is really hard to manage when working with many tabs, because when selecting the tab in the middle of the tab bar, my brain suppose to see that tab seletected and stay at that position. But the selected tab then moved to another position that make me lost.

Re: Keep selected tab's position in Tab bar
Just in case, you should check out Configuration > Tabs section = there are a lot of options to customize tabs size and behavior there(like limit tabs width or caption, which lets more tabs visible). Plus there other ways to handle many tabs: like a drop-menu button, that shows full tabs list, or breadcrumb bar, that marks current tab with same color, making it easier to determine which one is current.
