Strange behaviour with symlinks and folder shortcut thumbnails

Post by kiwichick »

XY v28.30.2600

I use an app called LinkShellExtension to create symlinks. Folders that are symlinks have a shortcut arrow that is purple [screenshot1]. The symlink folder shortcut displays fine for Details, List, Small Icons, Large Icons, and Small Tiles. In all other views, nothing displays [screenshot2].

In a fresh instance, the purple arrow isn't displayed - it's just the system default blue shortcut arrow [screenshot3]. In Large Tiles, Thumbnails #2, and Thumbnails #3 the shortcut arrow is shown up the side of the folder instead of in the corner [screenshot4] - this includes normal folder shortcuts, not just the symlinks.

Yes, link arrow placement has always been a PITA. It's on my list.

Yes, arrow placement has been problematic. Good to know it's on your list. Any ideas about what's going on with the symlinks?

All fine here. But I use XYplorer to create symlinks, not LinkShellExtension.

I use many symlinks and I use XYP to create them (enabled 'Paste Symbolic Link' button on toolbar). They work flawlessly 100% of the time.

As for the arrow, there is a free Windows program 'Winaero Tweaker' that allows the removal of the shortcut arrow. The setting is found in Shortcuts/Shortcut Arrow. Set it to None. Reboot and that pesky arrow is gone from everywhere.

Thanks. Unfortunately, this doesn't work unless XY is run as admin and if it is run as admin, drag'n'dropping files from a browser isn't possible. I use drag'n'drop far more often than I create symlinks so running as admin isn't really an option.

I don't want the arrow removed. I'm not sure why you thought I did.

XY needs to run as admin to create symlinks and I use drag'n'drop from my browser a lot which doesn't work if XY is run as admin.
