How to disable the system's native menu bar

Post by AlphaGo »

I am using XYplorer version 28.30.1901 (64-bit). If I recall correctly, ever since the 32-bit era, XYplorer has featured a custom-developed menu bar that coexists with the native system menu bar (note: I am referring to the menu bar, not the toolbar).

The native system menu bar does not support Dark Mode, so it looks out of place. I have researched this extensively, but the available settings only allow control over XYplorer's custom menu bar. Since the functionality of both menu bars is identical, I see no need to keep the native system menu bar.

Is there any way to disable the native system menu bar?

Toggle Main Menu is Ctrl+Shift+Alt+F12 is the XY default or built-in command to do what you want. That of course can be customized. The Command ID for Toggle Main Menu is #1061.

Thanks for the reply. I had already tried that; the command/shortcut only controls the menu bar developed by XYplorer itself and cannot control the native system menu bar.

There are only 2 Menu bars available, one is the menu which can be added via XYplorer's toolbar (part of the toolbar) and the other is XYplorer's XYplorer's Main Menu which is toggled as I mentioned above. The latter is the Menu that does not go dark in "Dark mode". That is one of the reasons Don added the capability to add the same menu items to the toolbar. If you are referring to XYplorer "title bar" or system title bar, that can not be removed unless you use an external program like AHK.

There seems to be some misunderstanding. I am referring to the repetition of items 2 and 3 in the image below.

Are you saying your row labeled "2" does not toggle with CID #1061 or the keyboard shortcut for "Toggle Main Menu" as we discussed above? If that's the case, I'm not sure why it's white when you are in "Dark" mode.

If you click on the toolbar item with the 3 short horizontal lines which is "Show Menu Bar" (your 2nd toolbar item from the left side), what happens? does the row labeled "2" in your picture toggle?

Other possibility (less likely), you may have listed in "Customize Toolbar...", "All menus (Group)" twice, one in row 1, and one in row 2. You can have multiple "rows" in each toolbar and have the "All menus (Group)" in each row. Go into Customize Toolbar and look at the right side panel which lists the items. You may see "All menus (Group)" listed twice one row 1 and one in row 2, You would also see an entries for New Row. I was thinking your #2 row was XYplorer's Main Menu which can be toggled on and off as I described above, but the menu items on that row as shown in your picture do not have the accelerator key underlined (they are underlined on my Main Menu if/when I have it shown).

If none of the above helps, you should provide a pic of your Customize Toolbar.

Ctrl+Right-Click the "Show Menu Bar" button to control the behavior of that button and #1061.

I've tried every method I could find, including the Ctrl+Shift+Alt+F12 shortcut, Ctrl+Right-Click, and the #1061 command, but I can't turn off Bar-2; I can only control Bar-3.

I purchased XYplorer in January 2019 and started using it. Due to the passage of time, I can't guarantee the accuracy of the following information:

XYplorer already supported dark mode in 2019, and there was always a Bar-2 version that didn't support dark mode. It seems that XYplorer released Bar-3 in 2021, coexisting with Bar-2.

Bar-3 has the same menu options as Bar-2, with only three differences:

1. Dark mode support
2. Can be toggled on/off
3. Can be interacted with via the right mouse button

I found similar discussions in the forum from 2019:

Ah, I see it now: Window | Arrangement | Allow Multiple Button Rows has to be enabled for your toolbar setup since you have placed the menu buttons in a non-first button row.

Unfortunately, there is no change regardless of whether "Allow Multiple Button Rows" is enabled or disabled.

Paste this into the XY address bar, press ENTER, and post the returned string (which is the makeup of your toolbar).

Code: Select all

text toolbar();

Don is {menus_all} an old toolbar designation, that is now All menus (Group)? Could it possibly be causing the issue? I do not see {menus_all} as a option on Customize Toolbar's left panel (i.e., Available buttons).

Edit: I'm not sure if it's old since I just checked and I have {menus_all} on my toolbar designation in XYplorer.ini too. My toolbars work fine.

{menus_all} is the internal key for "All menus (Group)"

Hello Don, is it necessary for me to provide you with a complete copy of the program and configuration files for more in-depth troubleshooting? This issue spans at least 7 years, and I don't want to disrupt the reproduction environment, so I'll just package the original application folder and data folder directly.

Should I send this via email?
