Rapid Access Folder at UNC server root lists shares but cannot open them
XYplorer version: 28.30.1800 (64-bit)
Windows version/build: 25H2 (OS Build 26200.8875)
Display scaling: 175%
Resolution: 3840 × 2160
Problem:
A Rapid Access Folder pointing to a bare UNC server root displays the server’s SMB shares, but opening any displayed share fails with “Location currently not available.”
Steps to reproduce:
1. Enter `fresh;` in the address bar to start a factory-default XYplorer instance.
2. Create a Rapid Access entry:
`Test>\\SERVER`
3. Open “Test.” The available shares are listed correctly.
4. Open any listed share, such as “Share1.”
Actual result:
XYplorer attempts to open the Rapid Access virtual path `Test\Share1` and displays:
“Location currently not available.”
Expected result:
`Test\Share1` should resolve to `\\SERVER\Share1` and open normally.
Additional testing:
* Tested the server-root target with and without a trailing backslash.
* The problem reproduces in a fresh/default instance.
* Opening `\\SERVER\Share1` directly works.
* Creating a Rapid Access entry for `\\SERVER\Share1` works.
* Browsing Network → SERVER → Share1 works.
* After opening a direct share and navigating upward to the server root, the other shares can be opened.
This appears limited to Rapid Access resolving a share beneath a bare UNC server-root target. Is a bare UNC server root intended to be supported as a Rapid Access Folder?

Works fine here. You double-click the share in the list to open it?

"You double-click the share in the list to open it?" - funny
"Works fine here." - Must be something related to my my system then if its not able to be duplicated.

I wasn't joking. I want to track your course of action as closely as possible. That's how debugging works.

Re: Rapid Access Folder at UNC server root lists shares but cannot open them
Well it really might be on my end since no one else has posted about this. I don't have to double click on anything. I have everything as a single click. However the end result of a single click verses a double click is the exact same.
Now I just discovered something new that may be related to MS Windows permissions... So opening my NAS only to the root FS, clicking on someone else's user I get "Location currently not available" but when I open the same link from rapid access to root, anb click my home dir under the NAS It works. Now, I have root privs on the NAS stored in my creds in windows. So not sure what the difference is for other users verses my user on the nas (if thats even the problem). When I go to the network links they work just fine as I stated in my first post.

Re: Rapid Access Folder at UNC server root lists shares but cannot open them
Can you show a screenshot of the entire XYplorer window with that “Location currently not available.” message?

Re: Rapid Access Folder at UNC server root lists shares but cannot open them
Sure, on the left, you see at the bottom of rapid access kasnas2 with a blue icon. I clicked that and got this:
Then clicking anyone else (what your asking for):
However clicking my account works just fine:
Keep in mind, I can use the network link and access everyone. Windows Explorer I have no issues but who wants to use Windows Explorer?
I can also click on my account as seen in the last image and then move upward a few directory levels and access every one that way too. Just not via \\kasnas2\[ANYONE] except my account.
Edit: I still maybe think this could be a windows issue or permissions deal on windows. Again not a deal breaker either way.

Thanks! Can't explain it. Works perfectly here. And why shouldn't it? Mystery.

Re: Rapid Access Folder at UNC server root lists shares but cannot open them
I think this has also never worked for me either. Does the below repro work for you twixydon?, if I run it, and then try and enter any of the subfolders of the new RAF network entries in the list, I get "Location currently not available", but if I then relocate the tab and prefix with \\ then it works.
Code: Select all
goto "%NET%"; raf(listpane(),, "|"); goto "%RAPIDACCESS%";-

Re: Rapid Access Folder at UNC server root lists shares but cannot open them
I don't get "Location currently not available", but I noticed that the path is missing the "\\" in the address bar when selected in the RAF tree, so something is off here.
Do you get a hover box listing for the shares? I do, but again something is wrong: the icon is a "?".
I'll take a deeper look later in Win11.

Re: Rapid Access Folder at UNC server root lists shares but cannot open them
I get
icons for all items in the tree & list Folder Contents Preview popup, and in the list HB, mine is like yours, folders are all listed ok but in the HoverBox info area the
icon for the folder. Also mine doesn't even indicate there are shares available in the tree.

Oops no sorry I hadn't checked for updates yet, those were from .2507.
In .2509 it all seems resolved now
