Hi,
I’m seeing a persistent blank, unnamed icon in the folder tree, directly under „Dokumente“ in the left pane. It has no label, cannot be selected in the „Items in Tree and List“ dialog and doesn’t correspond to any real folder or shortcut in Windows Explorer.
Environment:
– XYplorer: 28.30.1300 (64‑bit, portable/install – bitte deine Variante eintragen)
– Windows: 11 Pro, 64‑bit, German
– Screen scaling: 125 %
What I see:
– In the XYplorer tree under „Dieser PC“ → „Dokumente“ there is a white, blank icon between „Dokumente“ and „OneDrive“.
– The entry has no name and no hover tooltip.
– Left‑click does nothing; right‑click opens the normal context menu for the surrounding area.
– In Windows File Explorer, there is no corresponding folder or link at that position.
What I already tried:
– Disabled/reenabled „Links folder“ and „Documents folder“ in Configuration → General → Tree and List → Items in Tree and List.
– Disabled icon overlays and shortcut overlays, then restarted XYplorer.
– Enabled „Auto‑optimize tree“ and restarted XYplorer (tree rebuild).
– Ran sfc /scannow on Windows and cleared/rebuilt the Windows icon cache (IconCache.db).
– Checked %userprofile%\Links for broken shortcuts – none found.
The blank icon is still there and seems to be a ghost shell item only XYplorer picks up.
Screenshots:
– Tree screenshot with the blank icon under „Dokumente“.
– Screenshot of „Refresh, Icons, History“ settings.
– Screenshot of „Select which Items to Show in Tree and List“.
Is this a known issue or can you tell me how to identify and remove this ghost entry from the tree?
Viele Grüße
Sven

Please include the following information:
1) Your XYplorer Version (e.g., v28.00.0801)
2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).
We strongly recommend adding your Windows Version and Screen Scaling Percentage to the Location field in your Profile or to your Signature. That way, you only have to type them once, and we won't have to search for that vital information.

Does the icon itself have a tooltip?

No, the icon does not show any tooltip at all when I hover it (with current hover settings enabled).

Re: Blank/ghost icon in folder tree next to Documents
1) Maybe you checked "OneDrive for Business" in Configuration | General | Tree and List | Items in Tree and List | Select Items... ?
2) Or is your Downloads folder at some unusual location?

Thanks, that was it – „OneDrive for Business folder [Not found]“ was checked. After unchecking it, the blank tree icon disappeared. I’ll apply the same setting on my other devices.

Did you actively check it at one point?
