?Poor Quality Preview > Images

Post by Zardoz2293 »

v28.30.0302

EDIT: Clarification-- this is regarding PDF files in the Preview Pane.

Not sure when the image degrade occurred, or if it's a defect/bug. Preview in Windows Explorer (LEFT) and XYplorer (RIGHT) -- looking for same, or near same resolution as in the LEFT within XYplorer.

PDF-XChange Editor Pro is driving the preview handler (v10.8.5, Build 410)

Looks like XY is showing only a thumbnail, not the real preview. Maybe you ticked PDF in "Configuration | Preview | Previewed Formats | Categories | Preview as Thumbnail"? Or you unticked PDF in "Configuration | Preview | Previewed Formats | Categories | Document Files"?

Both are set correctly.

I've forwarded my XYplorer.ini to support.

Okay, I'll look into it later.

In the meantime you could try scripting command previewcheck.

preview failed ... that explains why you see the thumbnail. Why does it fail? Can't say. Maybe the handler is not 64-bit?

My guess is it has something to do with XYplorer being AMD64 and I'm on WinOS= AArch64, Explorer= AArch64, and PDF-XChange= AArch64

Do you have this issue with all PDFs?

100%

Vendor of PDF-XChange Editor is suggesting there might be an issue within XYplorer's Preview Pane's Scaling related to Screen Resolution as the Preview Handler is working correctly in Windows Explorer in the same environment.

Further clarification: I am only using XYplorer on the Main display (MacBook 4112 x 2658 @200%) - VM (Client) W11 Pro, 25H2.26200.8246 (10.0)

Could you try the 32-bit version of XYplorer?

32-Bit (v27.20.1217) = WORKS AS EXPECTED (PERFECT SCALING OF PREVIEW PANE)
64-Bit (v28.30.0401) = POOR QUALITY, VERY PIXELATED.

Could you try the 64-bit handler from the 32-bit version? Check this:
Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | 64-bit Windows | Use 64-bit preview handlers for preview

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

AFTER the FAULT w/ 64-bit handler the preview pane is like below. Switching BACK to the 32-bit does not update, XY must be unloaded and load.

Something is wrong with that handler. (No idea why it works in Explorer.) Did you ever try the free PDF-XChange Viewer? It works well everywhere and always.
