Search issues

I don't understand the search page. I constantly look for things that don't appear, but are actually there.
I just realized the following:
I put in a search string with Name and Contents checked. Immediately it says nothing found, but I know it was too fast to search for that string in my whole Documents folder. So I unchecked Name and left only Contents, then it started searching the contents.

This behavior makes no sense to me, so what am I not understanding?

On the Name and Location tab you can set all sorts of things that could affect it, like not searching subfolders, searching folders that aren't the one shown in the current pane, filetypes etc, you'd need to double check your settings on the Name tab.
