Protected Tabs

Post by CompSystems »

Hello

When you click on tabs and close others simultaneously (for example, "Close other tabs"), locked tabs should not close. One option would be to protect them from automatic closure with a new lock option, for example, "Protected Tab"

If you try to close a locked tab you get a warning message, if you ignore this, it is your problem.

If "Configuration | Tabs and Panes | Tabs | Prompt on closing a locked tab" is ticked, which it is not by default, which I find surprising. I think it should be ticked by default. Opinions?

If you Ctrl+Right-Click a tab header you'll see a command "Close Other Unlocked Tabs".

It would be nice if users had the option to only hear a beep (a system beep or, preferably, a user specified sound file) when they try to close a locked tab. This way, they wouldn't have to click an alert box button to confirm or cancel. I suppose there would have to be 2 options - one for the beep and one for the alert message. If just a beep is selected, they'd also need an alternative way to confirm closure of the tab - a right click menu option perhaps?

Hm. I find the current way clear and practical.

The exit message when closing other tabs should have a button that says "Close tabs only without locking" and another for all tabs.

No thanks. Two of my PCs are headless and I don't have audio enabled.

Then users should have the following options:

When trying to close a protected tab:
_Do nothing
_ Show a confirmation dialog
_ Play a sound (button to select sound)

Users can select multiple options - except of course, if they select, Do Nothing.

BTW - just because you don't want to hear a beep, doesn't mean others don't. Functions can be implemented in such a way that satisfies all user preferences. So why vote against it?
