I rechecked and same address in windows explorer definitely has no problem. So weird.

The long search is over.
While this setup has worked on other computers, there was a glitch on this one.
I had windows user download folder mapped to my mapped D drive, and due to a glitch, was disallowing me certain functions on the D drive. After resetting the user folders to default locations, the D drive works as expected in both windows explorer and xyplorer.
Go figure.
