The attached shows what I'm talking about. Notice how the right-hand pane shows four folders, but the left-hand pane is still showing the old two folders. I have hit F5. I have auto-refresh on. Nothing makes it show the four folders until I exit the program and go back in. This has been hounding me for a long time, and every once in a while I upgrade to see if the problem's fixed. It's never fixed. OK, so this is a feature? I want the left pane to reflect something I do in the right-pane. If it's supposed to already work like this, what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Re: Refresh and F5 do not work
Yes, B: is a network drive -- mapped to \\FS\BACKUPS. The config you asked for is attached.

Re: Refresh and F5 do not work
01. Does it work with a fresh instance?
02. Does it work if you do the same with a folder that is on a local drive?

Re: Refresh and F5 do not work
01. Nothing makes it show the four folders until I exit the program and go back in, by which I mean quitting the program and then restarting it "freshens" the network drive in the left pane.
02. I just played with this. It seems to work the way I want on the C: drive on this PC, which is a SATA HDD connected to the motherboard. I tried it on another PC where the C: drive is an SSD, and it worked as I want there too. I did not test other types of external drives, e.g., USB.
The problem seems isolated to network drives. And even then, after my playing, I'm not sure what exactly the problem is. I think I have a way to recreate the situation that irks me. Open up XYplorer and navigate to a network drive. In my setup, I see the folders on the left and the details for the left-pane selected folder on the right. Now open a DOS box (command prompt) and CD to that left-pane folder and 'mkdir foo'. The right pane will auto-adjust and show 'foo'. The left pane won't. I can hit F5, and it still does not show 'foo'. I think (from before) even clicking the -/+ sequence (to collapse and reopen), it still does not show 'foo'. This is what irks me, and please tell me this behavior can be changed or there's some option I need to set. BTW, I've been doing so many tests I've lost count, but I think the type of "PC" didn't matter: I'm using Microsoft File Sharing (SMB aks CIFS, etc.) on all my PCs and the Synology file server, and I seem to recall XYplorer behaves the same way on both: it doesn't seem (from memory) that the file server is the culprit. It seems isolated to SMB file shares.

Re: Refresh and F5 do not work
A number of points to make. I looked in the View menu from top to bottom when F5 didn't work, and saw Refresh F5, which of course didn't work for the tree. Silly me? I am used to F5 refreshing everything. Second, if it refreshes the right-hand pane, why not the left? Third, I just did the test, and it did not update the tree. In other words, F4 did not refresh the tree. Clearly I think 'mkdir foo' in a DOS box refreshing the right-hand pane means it should also refresh the tree in the left-hand pane. I think there is something else going on here since F4 did not refresh the tree. There are so many options, etc. in XYplorer that I don't care if this is or is not considered a bug: I would just like to be able to set options so that both panes (all panes -- I could have more than one pointed to the same place, right?) update together and are consistent with what's actually going on in the file system. To me that's the most-important thing: consistency with what's going on in the file system.
Re: Refresh and F5 do not work
Do you have [Configuration | General | Safety Belts, Network | Network | Assume that mapped network drives are available] enabled?
If so, disable this setting and the folder tree should auto-refresh as expected (viewtopic.php?p=227395#p227395).

Re: Refresh and F5 do not work
By clearing this checkbox, it made the behavior work as I want. I read the help info on this, and that explains why I originally wanted it checked. I am used to seeing red lines or something in Explorer (which I still do use sometimes) when a drive is not available. (The drives seem to time out or something. I click them in the left pane and they're back in the right pane.) I assume, by unchecking this box, the equivalent in XY will be I won't see the "red lines or something," but updates, e.g., from a DOS box, will show in both panes immediately. (I briefly tested this just now, and it's doing what I want.) Thanks. (Please advise if I am wrong about something here.)
Re: Refresh and F5 do not work
I just tested it on another machine. It worked as I wanted there, too. It also showed me red X's for drives that had "timed out." If anyone wants to explain what exactly happens when XY or Explorer puts the "red mark" on a drive and then clicking it "wakes it up," I'd be curious know more. Based on the XY help information, it would seem I am getting the red X when I thought I would not see it. There is another option I ran into that I also have been using: from memory only it shows all the mapped drives even if they're, I guess, unavailable. I got the impression, and probably ran some tests, that if I don't check that box, I would have to wait for the drive list to "populate." I'd rather not wait...
