grouping files into groups like in Windows Explorer

Post by usersky »

Make it possible to group files into groups, just like you can do in Windows Explorer.
Grouping by type, size, and so on.

Only note that the way files are grouped is different in Windows 7 and Windows XP. In XP it is much more convenient to group the files. But in Windows 7 you can hide the groups, which is also very convenient.

ps
And thank you for not giving up on winds XP, a lot of people still use this OS.

is not very clear,
"Nope" it means that there will never be such a function, it cannot be done for some reason ?
Or "Nope" it applies only to the scripts that francisiu asked about ?

“Group by Type” is not supported, not even via scripting, and it is not planned.

Since Explorer doesn't have all the colouring/filtering abilities, like XY does, adding more grouping with colours would make a mess. Yet if you really want that, i guess you can dive into mentioned colour-filtering and via scripting make something toggle-able and similar to Explorers grouping.

That's unfortunate. I've been trying XYplorer for a while now, and so far I really liked it, but this a deal-breaker for me.
I'm too used to having this feature. I always sort my files by date and then group them by type.
It makes it easier (for me) to manage my files.

Sort by column and than Shift+Click on secondary desired sorting column = double sorting.
