[Solved (it works)]Hot keys working or not for 64-bit?

Post by Sander Bouwhuis »

The only thing blocking me from switching to 64-bit is that the website says that hot keys are not working yet in 64-bit.

1. Is that still true, or is the information old?
2. If it still doesn't work, what is the timeline to have them working?

I'm a little unclear on your link. It is the roadmap for ANOTHER program.
1. Are you saying XYPlorer is completely dependent on the compiler for the shortcut keys?
2. Do shortcut keys fall under the 'mnemonics', i.e., july-december?

XY x64 is compiled with TwinBasic (hence the link) and as long as they don't add the support for mnemonics it will not be available in XY

I just decided to check the release notes for the 64-bit, and there are many mentions of shortcut keys being used. Also, it stated you could go to the settings and override the shortcut keys.
So, I'm a little confused; do they work now, or still not?

On a side note, can I install Xyplorer 64 in such a way that it uses my current settings from the 32-bit version, but not share them (in case something goes wrong)? I searched on my harddisk, but it seems Xyplorer's directory contains all the settings(?). So, if I copy my current Xyplorer directory and then name it Xyplorer32 or so, I could run the 32-bit and 64-bit next to each other without interference, right?
(I have the 'lifetime license professional', in case that matters).

I noticed this question comes up often, so I added it to the FAQ:

But... do the hotkey work or not? It's the only thing stopping me from (eagerly) going to 64-bit.

Also:
Thanks for the info about the Startup.ini containing the path to my config. I currently have it set like this:
[Appdata]
Path=C:\Utilities\XYplorer\Settings

Are relative paths allowed?
I would just like to change this to :
[Appdata]
Path=Settings

That way, when I copy or rename the directory, Xyplorer will always look at its own settings. If not, this will devastate my settings when running a 32-bit and 64-bit next to each other.

Use the portable version, and every copy has it's own settings.
Windows 11 Home, Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.7171)
Portable x64 XYplorer (Actual version, including betas)
Display settings 1920 x 1080 Scale 100%
Everything 1.5.0.1402a (x64), Everything Toolbar 2.1.0, Listary Pro 6.3.6.99

Are relative paths allowed?
No, full paths (environment variables are allowed) are necessary
If not, this will devastate my settings when running a 32-bit and 64-bit next to each other.
As long as both have their own directory you can use different Startup.ini's (as long as you really need those)?

Yes. Have XYplorer.exe in a writable (not UAC-protected) location, and remove any Startup.ini file, and the settings will be stored in the "Data" subfolder.

Thanks for the help people, but why can no one answer the actual question of whether shortcut keys work or not? Is nobody running the 64-bit version?

Sure they work. It's not hard to find out. Just try it.

I guess a lot of users, including me, are running the x64 version.
What shortcuts do you really miss ?
Did you test anything at all, it's a matter of minutes to install a portable version for this?

Sorry, I am just a bit scared of losing settings I have used for years. When I switch to 64-bit I don't want to have to go back to 32-bit.
It is really great news to hear that shortcut keys work now!
Thanks a lot people.
