Single-click to open an item, set or toggle

Post by klownboy »

Hi Don, would it be possible to get a SC conf setting to set or toggle the Configuration setting: “Single-click to open an item” under Configuration → Menus, Mouse, Usability? Something like:

conf("MouseSingleClick", 1) ; enable
conf("MouseSingleClick", 0) ; disable
and possibly,
get("MouseSingleClick") ; check state

Even better would be the flexibility to turn the two subset options on or off as well, "On the icon only" and Folders only". So in that case, "Single click to open an item" could be be enabled and the subset options turned off or on.

This would allow toggling single-click behavior only when in certain views like a thumbnail view. This would allow the user to open the file with their viewer of choice with only single click of a thumbnail. Single clicking on a file outside of that is not something I want. Others users may or may not. I'd still use MDBU but probably with the right click option. I could do this using sendkeys to Configuration, but that's cumbersome to say the least. Thanks for considering.

To me, the "single-click to open an item" folks seem like aliens from a distant galaxy with strange behaviors and expectations. No offense, but no normal person needs to switch between these worlds on the fly.

Well, I never thought of myself as alien, old maybe. The capability of using a single-click on a thumbnail to display an image using the user's default image viewer, and in most other situations, permiting a single-click only on a file's icon would not be considered that strange or abnormal.

Program the wheel button to make a double click.

Honestly, I've never like the wheel click. Would you consider a third subset of "Single-click to open an item": "On a thumbnail only".
When it comes right down to it that's all I'm after.

Too exotic.

Oh well, I tried. Though it's worth noting, that if I have the option "Point to select" enabled (I don't) and have its subset, "on the icon only" also selected, the single click on the "thumbnail" displays the image in the default viewer. In other words in this case, "on the icon only" works for thumbnail as well. So I'm not sure you can call my last request exotic.

I suppose all the above seems to be a mute point in that, with MDBU on left-click and "Point to select" both disabled, as long as "Single-click to open an item" and its subset "on the icon only" are both enabled, when you click on a thumbnail, the image in displayed in the default viewer. I've never had "Single-click to open an item" and its subset "on the icon only" enabled, but I'll do that since it works for thumbnails too. Thanks Don for bearing with me.

Whatever makes you happy. But why do you need a "default viewer"? What about F11? :eh:

For windowed viewing I like Image Eye. It's extremely quick and has a very clean interface with no title bar, etc. For full screen viewing I do use F12 in XY and also MDBU with mouse right-click. I can have a bunch of image windows open in Image Eye and I can close them individually or close them all in a single click.

By the way, I use Single-click to open an item | On the icon only. For images I use Floating Previews and MDBU. It would be nice to be able to right-click on the icon to open the item.
(Sometimes frequent double-clicking causes fatigue so I need Single-click to open an item.)
