1) Your XYplorer Version (e.g., v28.00.0801)
2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).

:info: We strongly recommend adding your Windows Version and Screen Scaling Percentage to the Location field in your Profile or to your Signature. That way, you only have to type them once, and we won't have to search for that vital information.

Action log errors

Post by oblivion »

Sorry, this is one of those nasty intermittent things.

A couple of times in the last couple of weeks, I've had a report at startup that the action log database is corrupt and it's going to be wiped.

I've never touched the default settings, so it's remembered between sessions, remembers a maximum of 100 sets of actions with each entry having an unlimited number of actions. (I assume this means that a command to rename 1000 files is a single entry comprising 1000 actions, for instance?)

Anyway, while this hasn't caused me a problem, it's definitely a New Thing. :)

Sadly not. It politely told me that the action log would be deleted and gave me an OK button to press and without thinking, I just clicked on the button.

I'll remember to grab a screenshot if it does it again and I'm not in automatic pilot mode :)

I guess it was this one:

If it happens again you can press Cancel and send the file action.dat to support.

Hmf. Well, that didn't work. I got the error again, hit cancel, found action.dat ready to send and it was a zero-byte file. So either cancel zaps it anyway, or I hit the wrong button (don't think so though) or it was already zero-bytes and that was different to what XY was expecting.

Next time, I'll leave the dialog where it is and see if I can pull action.dat out from under.

FWIW, I did the restart without saving to see if I'd get the same error -- I didn't -- and I went to look at action.dat and found it's 114 bytes of fairly sensible-looking hex values.

Weird. I have never seen that error in my life.
