One regular inconvenience experienced is other apps will make a call to display a folder, for whatever harmless and OK reason they do that. Usually because I asked it to. XY handles these requests by using the current in focus tab and going to the newly requested location. It would be far more helpful if XY spawned a new tab for this, so I don't have to remember to back-track to the originally open tab after I have finished with whatever the curio was that had me trigger this request to look at files.
I don't see any option in Tabs to spawn a new tab on calls to XY. Possibly that is the way to allow this convenience to occur, and Remote Call should default to 'new tab', with the current 're-use current tab' being the non-default behaviour.
This request is to reflect modern web browser behaviour, in that links to 'the interesting stuff' open a new tab, which we X out of when done. No inconvenience, no foul. Thank you.
External Calls to XY preferably to Spawn a New Tab
Re: External Calls to XY preferably to Spawn a New Tab
Which applications for example?
With activated Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | Default File Manager | [x] XYplorer is default file manager?
For the current user or all users (same config page)?

You could test if the setting in Startup&Exit / Open command line path in new tab changes that behaviour.

Re: External Calls to XY preferably to Spawn a New Tab
This creates the desired behaviour. That it is described in this way and not in the Tabs section then becomes the feature request
If I use Kyocera Quick Scan to scan a doc, it opens the scan folder after scanning. Previously, it would take over the last used XY tab. Now it spawns a new tab to the right of the last used tab, which is OK as I don't really care where the tab is spawned, despite that at the end would be the intuitively expected behaviour, given that is what Chrome does and some ppl do use that way of looking at the world now...
Any way, this is a basic, expected behaviour that is neither the default, intuitive in its naming, or easy to find. All aspects meriting a feature request.

Re: External Calls to XY preferably to Spawn a New Tab
I agree that it feels natural today to enable "Configuration | General | Startup & Exit | Open command line start path in new tab" by factory default.
Any objections?

Re: External Calls to XY preferably to Spawn a New Tab
Sure, if it is on by default, the expected action will just happen so nobody will go looking in startup, when XY is already started and any such behaviour, including position of the externally launched tab, should be in the Tabs section. Stuff in the startup section should only be that. Window size, location / whatever...
Re: External Calls to XY preferably to Spawn a New Tab
I agree.
I often start XY from other tools, and it should never disturb the current tabs.
