Good morning everyone, let me introduce myself + some questions
Good morning everyone, let me introduce myself + some questions
I signed up a few days ago, my name is Daniele, I am Italian, visually impaired, 60 years old and I use Win7. After years of configurations I would not like to replace it. It is still good and for my needs it is Ok. I find Xyplorer a complete, intuitive, responsive and dark background file manager. With many customizations. suitable for everyone.
Here are my requests Info:
1- Is it possible to set the dark background also for the context menu and for the pop-up boxes of the menu bar?
2- How to hide file extensions?
3- Is it possible to open folders in multiple windows?
Thanks Daniele

Re: Good morning everyone, let me introduce myself + some questions
1) You need to run your Windows OS in dark mode to get dark menus, I think in Win7 you can only do that by using High Contrast Mode or maybe via a custom theme. Although it is possible to make the main XY menu to be dark though (when XY is in dark mode), to do so you need to hide the normal menu, with the 2nd button in the default toolbar, then from the Customize Toolbar dialog (right click toolbar to access) add the alternative menu like this:

2) Tools | Customize List | Hide Extensions
3) You can, but XY is really designed to be used as a multi tab interface, rather than multi window.

Thanks Jupe for your support, two unclear questions:
2 - I would like to hide these file extensions - see image below
3 - How do I open in multiple windows?
Thanks Daniele

2) I answered this already at the bottom of my previous post, the text I mentioned is menu items.
3) I also already addressed this in my last post, but anyway maybe the easiest way for you, as a new user, to access this ability without totally understanding the XY architecture (pros and cons of multi-window etc) is by using this:
File | Open Throw Away Clone

Re: Good morning everyone, let me introduce myself + some questions
Clarification: I use the trial version, can it affect the possibility of configuration?
I did as you said, but it hides the extensions when renaming files or eliminates the file extension column.
I would like not to see the extensions in the file list, it seems to me that this is not possible.
By multiple windows I mean: opening multiple windows from the Win7 desktop. Is it possible?
Thanks Daniele

Re: Good morning everyone, let me introduce myself + some questions
Tool / Customize List / Hide Extension resolves to:
Main menu "Tool" > sub menu entry "Customize List" > toggle entry "Hide Extension"
Main menu "Tool" > sub menu entry "Customize List" > toggle entry "Hide Extension"

Re: Good morning everyone, let me introduce myself + some questions
Ok many thanks to all. Solved.
Sorry but I could not understand that it was in a menu item tools and not in a configuration item.
There are many settings and this is good, but it can be difficult to find the right one. I add that with English I do not have a great feeling. Thanks again Daniele.

Re: Good morning everyone, let me introduce myself + some questions
Daniele,
XYplorer is a flood of functions and settings!
Yes, sometimes it can feel too much even for long time users.
And it's on its way to take a giant - and long hoped/prayed for - jump into a bright future (+++ BREAKING NEWS: XYplorer goes twinBASIC +++).
I will buy another lifetime license for either release on MacOS and Linux, yeah!
PS: no, I'm not payed for my "fanboyism". The lifetime license simply is the best software bargain I've ever got.

Hey Filehero, I hope all is well. When Don releases a Mac version, I'll buy myself a Macbook Air and another lifetime license as well (3rd). I just bought my girlfriend one for her Birthday/retirement and now I'm jealous. I do still like my Asus Zenbook 3 Deluxe (2017).

Re: Good morning everyone, let me introduce myself + some questions
I second this. I'm using XY for >10 years now and barely use or understand 25% of it.
But luckily we got a very nice developer doing this, who's extremely helpful here in the forum (yeah, I'm talking about you, Don aka admin).
And we do have a great and helpful community. Someone knows the answer.
Yeah, I'm happy I took Lifetime Pro right away when I tested XY. Took me less than 2 weeks to decide, seeing as how often Don is used to drop updates.Filehero wrote: ↑02 May 2025 19:41 And it's on its way to take a giant - and long hoped/prayed for - jump into a bright future (+++ BREAKING NEWS: XYplorer goes twinBASIC +++).

Updates slowed down at the moment, mostly - I guess - because Don is working on the twinBASIC version.
