Listing drives that aren't currently connected?

Post by PhilA »

Hi All,

Is there a way to have XYPLORER list a drive that is currently not connected? I believe it used to do that (File Explorer does it). I have drives that I connect to via VPN and the drive names are long and complicated. I would like the drive name to stay on the drive list even if disconnected.

Thanks,

Phil

You could switch to a mini tree and activate this setting:
Configuration | General | Controls & More | Miscellaneous | [x] Allow zombies in the Mini Tree

Probably the easiest and most reliable way would be to manually add the drive to Rapid Access at the top of the tree once, else you could try enabling this:

Configuration | General | Safety Belts, Network | Network | Assume that mapped network drives are available

Jupe,

That did the trick. Thank you!

For posterity's sake, which of the two suggestions did the trick?

Yes, but Jupe's post has two suggestions and I guess Don would like to know which one the OP chose.

Hi Phil,

This is a common request, especially for those using VPN-mounted or network drives. Unfortunately, XYplorer doesn't persistently show disconnected drives by default, unlike File Explorer.

One workaround is to create a custom toolbar button or catalog entry that points to the UNC path or mapped drive. That way, even if the drive is not currently connected, you can still "see" a placeholder and quickly reconnect when needed.

Hope that helps!
