new items in context menu

Post by holle »

Hi there, first time xyplorer user. Seems great!

One question though. Searched, tried, read the help file ... i cant make the context menu show me "new items". This line simply doesn´t exist whatever i put in data\NewItems (and there is already a New.txt). Would love to create txt files and more in a folder when right clicking. As in old windows explorer (in Win11 you only can create folders. stupid)

thanks for any advice.
H.

And you invoke the context menu by right clicking in the list pane on white space?
If yes, show a screenshot of the menu you're getting

Yes, please see attached screenshot

and a quick "interim-question": i can´t get the settings of the "Spalten" (The things on the top that give you the details .... name, filesize, ecc ....no idea what that german word is called in english) to stick. Whenever i change the settings in the right pane, go to another folder (also there old view) and went back, this falls back to the old view (which i might have saved somewhere). How can i make it stick?Sorry, found it. Easy and obvious. Just so many options .... ;)

That's not a click on white space but on file(s) / folder(s)...

This is what i get when i right-click in a "white, empty" area in the right pane (list-pane?). Maybe my definition of white-space is wrong? But i wouldn´t know where else i should click to define the place where i would like to create the file/folder ...

Menü - Werkzeug - Dateiliste anpassen - [x] Ganzzeilig auswählen
Konfiguration | Allgemein | Menüs, Maus, Usability | Maus | [x] Namensspaltenweit auswählen

Any of the two are active (and you are clicking on the (empty) right part of the file name column part)?

Or:
Konfiguration | Allgemein | Benutzerdefinierte Ereignisreaktionen
Rechtsklick auf Leerfläche in Dateiliste - Pop up Ordner-Kontextmenü <= Is that entry selected?

Menü - Werkzeug - Dateiliste anpassen - [x] Ganzzeilig auswählen [deactivated]
Konfiguration | Allgemein | Menüs, Maus, Usability | Maus | [x] Namensspaltenweit auswählen [was activated, but no changes when deactivated]

Any of the two are active (and you are clicking on the (empty) right part of the file name column part)? [i´m clicking on a white area below files or folders. I think i tried ...]

Or:
Konfiguration | Allgemein | Benutzerdefinierte Ereignisreaktionen
Rechtsklick auf Leerfläche in Dateiliste - Pop up Ordner-Kontextmenü <= Is that entry selected? [Yes]

But you were right about that my shown context menu belongs to files/folders. I just realized now (in regards to "ganzzeilig auswählen" ) and i think i definitely also tried "real white space areas".

I doublechecked in a "100% secure white space area" still no newItems (but a different menu) . Please see screenshot

Thats brings me to the question (if this problem is solved) how to be able to do the right right-click when there is no defined white-space at all in the right list-pane?

.... and i just found out why i pasted the first screenshot. The behavior seems sporadic. Please see screenshot. The red mark is where i right-clicked .... in this folder i´m getting the file-right-click-context-menu again.

Rechtsklick auf Leerfläche in Dateiliste - Pop up Bearbeiten-Menü

That's the correct entry to use (and you've changed the default here)...

Oh no, yes, again, it does what it says. One should be more careful when playing with settings and stealing time of others.
Thanks a lot! Appreciated!

... which leads me to the question from above ....

Thats brings me to the question (if this problem is solved) how to be able to do the right right-click when there is no defined white-space at all in the right list-pane?

if the list-pane is filled with files/folders there is no white space. If i remember right in win7 explorer there was always a tiny bit of space (like a padding) below the last entry.

Ok, yes, now i feel a little bit stupid. I thought because of "Ganzzeilig auswählen" this wouldn´t be possible.
thanks again!
