Hi Flux,
Thanks for having a look. Everything's been working so well I had forgotten !
Unfortunately I haven't made a note of the regex before I changed it.
I took some time to check between my file and a fresh download : I couldn't find any difference
So I guess you're right, there must have been a corruption in my script file.
Sorry for the inconvenience and many thanks for that great script.

Fabulous; thank you for staying on this awesome code.

Re: Session Manager [v7.80] — Bookmark your environments: locations and/or display (tabsets and layout)
That's already quite useful. I find myself in the following situation though:FluxTorpedoe wrote: ↑07 Apr 2025 18:55⮞ There are already lots of way to achieve that, some of them ultra-fast!
– Ctrl+Click (default mouse modifier) on Session Manager button will switch between the last 2 sessions used
– Just pressing eg ~ (or any CKS assigned to "Quick Load"), will launch the Quick Load dialog. Then if you press the first letter(s) of a session and Enter, it will load it, eg press ~ then p will launch your session "Photo". And if you leave empty, it will switch between the last 2.
– As a last but powerful resort, you can already assign custom keyboard shortcuts to load any of your sessions, and much, much more.
⮚ You’ll find more info on all of this and more in Session Manager menu Options > Help: Cheat Sheet...
The Quick Load dialog is nice but it does not list the existing sessions, which is impossible for me to remember their names. (I have many sessions that keep growing in number and old ones will soon be obsolete.) So the Quick Load is a good start but does not go far enough.
Thus, I tried just popping the main Session Manager drop-down by CKS, which works. I then tried to use the character of my session names as accelerator keys, but that did not work. It works on the build-in menu items but not on the session names.
So, if you still have the energy and motivation, it would be nice if the main dialog that lists all the session names would load a session if I press the character that its name starts with. Then I can rename my most important sessions to start with 1, 2, 3, ... and just press its number. (I hate mouse movement and pressing the down / up arrow 10 times is not fun either.)
BTW, talking about names and renaming, I sometimes (and also now) realized that a multi-rename option could at times be helpful. This is not very important, but I thought, I just mention it, in case that it would be very easy to implement.
Kind regards, auto

Thanks for the very nice words!

⮞ Glad to know, so the new version with the updated reordering system should be working even better for you!Daniel0312 wrote: ↑07 Apr 2025 20:10 I took some time to check between my file and a fresh download : I couldn't find any difference![]()

⮞ That makes sense —and after implementing it, I see how fast it makes things for keyboard oriented users! I had to change how sessions were listed but it was worth it, and I think you’ll like this feature (also the Favorite session now accessible with accelerator * ).autocart wrote: ↑09 Apr 2025 10:56 So, if you still have the energy and motivation, it would be nice if the main dialog that lists all the session names would load a session if I press the character that its name starts with. ⮞ The need for a multi-rename tool didn’t seem that much frequent in itself, but… it has another benefit: the ability to rename a session without loading it, i.e. without leaving the current session (with the inconvenient of losing its state or the hassle of having to Quicksave/Autosave, etc.). So overall it seemed pertinent in the end, and without bloating Session Manager (it replaces the old action), so there you are!

• CHANGELOG:
+++ New action / mouse modifier on session: menu Actions > Append Specific Tabs of Another Session to Current Session...
This opens a window which lists the tabs of the chosen/clicked session,
then all selected tabs are appended to the active pane of the current session
Mouse modifier when clicking on session: Assigned by default (for new users) to Shift + click on session name
NB: This one is so useful, I don’t know why I didn’t do it before!
+++ New action / mouse modifier on session: menu Actions > Load a Session in a New Window...
Mouse modifier when clicking on session: Assigned by default (for new users) to Ctrl + click on a session name
+++ New action / mouse modifier on session: menu Actions > Load a Session in a New Read-Only Window...
++ New (updated) action: menu Actions > Rename Sessions...
This allows not only to rename a session without loading it (useful), but also to rename several sessions at once
- Removed previous action "Rename Current Session...", since the current active session can be renamed via "Rename Sessions..."
+++ Keyboard accelerators full support: i.e. you can now press the first letter of a session name to select/open it
e.g. Press your CKS (custom keyboard shortcut) to run Session Manager, then press w to open session Work
(or if you have several sessions starting with w, continue pressing w until Work is selected then press Enter)
* Appearance of list of sesssions: Only the active session is intended (and in bold),
and all layout indicators are now as suffixes: • if session has layout, ¶ if has toolbar, ° if has script
+ Favorite session: Now prefixed with "*", which makes it even easier to run via keyboard accelerator
+ New option: menu Options > Edit Text Color of Appended Tabs..
Useful to differentiate the tabs you’ve appended from another session, now you can change the color to your taste
+ New visual (~layout) action: menu Layout Tools > Reset Text Color of All Visible Tabs
Useful when you want to keep some of those appended tabs in your session
+ New visual (~layout) action: menu Layout Tools > Restore Folder View Settings of All Visible Tabs
Note: XYplorer "Folder View Settings" (FVS) is an option that remembers the view settings of any folder
and recalls them when they’re reopened. But tabsets (which store the tabs of several folders, etc.) also remember this,
and take precedence over FVS, which means that if you modify the view settings of a folder in a tabset
and reopen the tabset later, the folder will be displayed with its latest view settings.
You can manually restore its official FVS in XYplorer menu, but this can get tedious with several tabs/folders.
So this Session Manager action will let you reset all visible tabs at once (although not instantaneously,
depending on the number and complexity of your folders and FVS)
* / + Enhanced action: menu Actions > Reorder List of Sessions...
Now, it’s possible (/ much easier) to always list first some sessions in a custom order,
while keeping all the other/missing/new sessions listed alphabetically after them.
In the window that displays the sessions to reorder, there’s a new splitter which will act accordingly:
<------ Sessions missing and sessions below ------>
<------ will be listed last and alphabetically ------>
+ Mouse Modifiers on Button: in Session Manager menu, added visual indicator of assigned keyboard shortcuts,
with suffix "on Button" (e.g. by default: main menu: Reset Session Alt on Button)
+ Mouse Modifiers on Session: in Session Manager menu, added visual indicator of assigned keyboard shortcuts,
with suffix "on Session" (e.g. by default: menu Actions > Load a Session in a New Window... Ctrl on Session)
+ Toolbar button: Added ability to completely disable the use and checks of a toolbar button with Session Manager,
even when used from a toolbar button
! Toolbar button: Fixed toolbar button being updated when Session Manager was still launched from a button but not its own
! Toolbar button: Fixed toolbar button being forcefully updated on auto-maintenance after script update
The message: "[...] If you don’t want to use a toolbar button, press No." is always displayed (and respected) on maintenance
! Toolbar button: Fixed sessions not being listed when running Session Manager from the submenu of a script run from another toolbar button
* With the addition of new items, reordered menus Actions and Options, should be more sensible now,
including (long overdue) moving "AutoUpdate Single: Set Autosave to Current Session" from Options to Actions,
thus regrouping actions related to the current session (Set autosave, Set as favorit, Associate script)
* Moved option "Edit Mouse Modifiers (Used When Clicking on Session Manager Button)..." to menu "Options"
* Moved option "Edit Mouse Modifiers (Used When Clicking on a Session Name)..." to menu "Options"
+++ Maintenance check: Now also checks for XYplorer feature "Tabsets",
disabled by default since XY v26.30.0402 (but mandatory for Session Manager)
+ Maintenance check: Now also checks for XYplorer feature "Dual pane"
+ External access: added 4 new Session Manager actions that can be run externally (from other scripts, keyboard shortcuts, etc.)
For details on these actions, see above. Actions:
- Load session in a new window:
global $DYN_inpSess = "Session Name"; load "SessionManager.xys", "_LoadSessionInNewWindow";
- Load session in a new read-only window:
global $DYN_inpSess = "Session Name"; load "SessionManager.xys", "_LoadSessionInNewReadonlyWindow";
- Append a selection of tabs from another session (select from list):
load "SessionManager.xys", "_AppendSpecificFromAnotherSession";
- Append a selection of tabs from a specific session:
global $DYN_inpSess = "Session Name"; load "SessionManager.xys", "_AppendSpecificFromAnotherSession";
- Restore Folder View Settings of All Visible Tabs
load "SessionManager.xys", "_RestoreFolderViewSettings";
* Changed default Mouse Modifiers on Session:
- Ctrl + Click on session: Load clicked session in a new window
- Shift + Click on session: Append specific tabs of clicked session to current session
- Ctrl+Shift + Click on session: Append current tabs to clicked session
? NB: The list of mouse modifiers on button and mouse modifiers when clicking on session name,
and the list of all commands available for external access (shortcuts, etc.) is available in Session manager menu:

Re: Session Manager [v7.90] — Bookmark your environments: locations and/or display (save/restore tabsets and layout)
Hi flux,
I found one bug and an unfinished feature, if I may call it that.
BUG:
When renaming sessions, I can also tick the the "--- Temporary Session ---" to be renamed. When I actually rename it, then what happens is that the tabsets of the temp sess get renamed but in the script's menu the current session got renamed with the changes made. E.g. trying to prefix temp sess with "0 " ends up with tabsets "§1§_0 — Temporary Session —" and "§2§_0 — Temporary Session —" but inside the script's menu the session that was current at the time got renamed to "0 [current session name]". This leads to the fact that neither of both sessions can be loaded anymore.
I fixed it by renaming the tabsets themselves back to what the script thinks it should be and now never trying to rename temp sess anymore. But maybe you want to remove the temp sess from the rename sessions checkbox selector dialog? For other users.
"UNFINISHED FEATURE":
Accelerators to load sessions with keyboard: Works well for normal sessions, but I would like to also be able to load the temp sess with keyboard accelerator. I tried renaming the temp sess which led to the bug described above. However, using "-" as accelerator does not work either.
kind regards, auto
UPDATE:
The bug seems to be even worse:
Any sessions beneath the lines
in the reorder sessions dialog, seemingly, will not be loaded with the accelerators.

Re: Session Manager [v7.90] — Bookmark your environments: locations and/or display (save/restore tabsets and layout)
@all
Thanks for the feedback.
———————————————————————————
In Session Manager v7.0, I had changed the Temporary Session to behave like any regular session, so that e.g. if you modify it and then feel it’s worth keeping, you can just rename it. The bug comes from the detection: I hadn’t covered the case where you add a prefix while leaving the whole original name intact! That’s what happened when you prefixed with 0. (Behavior was the same with the dated Quick Sessions by the way.)
I fixed it, will be available in the next version.
⮚ In the meantime, prefix as you want, but also just change at least one character inside the whole "— Temporary Session —" name, which will allow the script to considered it as a regular session.
———————————————————————————
But it would make sense to have it easily accessible, as with the Favorite Session which I already updated to be prefixed with a simple "*".
So next version will auto-update the default Temporary Session em dash markers with regular dashes. I tried and it’s working well.
⮚ In the meantime, you can also manually define the Temporary Session name as you like (implemented a long time ago for an analog case if I remember correctly): it’s part of the language block of Session Manager, which is in English at the bottom of the script, or loaded from external file. If you use another language, modify its section: [1], entry: sm.0008.
If you don’t, create a SessionManager.en (next to SessionManager.ini) with this code (or any other name and signs you want):
———————————————————————————
I tried with my own regular XYplorer and some sessions a few years old, and also tried with a fresh new XYplorer and new sessions. All ordered and unordered sessions seem to launch correctly via accelerators. E.g. with a session "Alpha", pressing "a" jumps between Actions (the menu), Alpha, and About Current Session.
(It even works with unordered Quick Sessions by pressing the first digit of their date.)
Can you check if it works for some of your unordered sessions, or none at all?
Thanks for the feedback.

After further testing I think I could narrow it down:
When I click on the SM tb button with the mouse, then the main context menu pops. When I don't move the mouse, and now want to used the accelerators to load a session, it seems that none of the sessions can be loaded this way. However, e.g. "o" as accelerator for options does work in that state.

Re: Session Manager [v7.90] — Bookmark your environments: locations and/or display (save/restore tabsets and layout)
Confirmed, I had noticed that: Mouse-click on button followed by keyboard accelerators didn’t trigger any action.
I didn’t look into it further at the time, since accelerators are presumably more for keyboard-oriented operations, which work, and since it’s related to the way scripts and menus are processed by XY…
But I decided to try my luck and see if I could make it work… And I found a way, by bringing the focus back to the UI. Another fix for the next version.
If you want to try, just add focus "XY"; at line 1412 before the menu is loaded.
