Drag files from inactive pane

Post by phuckstepp »

I've noticed that before you can drag and drop a single file from an inactive pane (dual pane mode), you have to click within the pane once first. This has caught me out quite a few times. I would prefer, if at all possible, to be able to just grab a file and drag it to the other pane even if it is inactive.

Unless there's a setting I've missed somewhere?

Hi,

Maybe I don't quite understand the question? but as a dnd starts with file selection, the start panel is automatically activated at the same time, so no need to select pane.

Similarly, when files are dropped on the destination panel, the destination panel is activated.

Interestingly thing: when you drop the files on a tab (even an unopened one), it also opens after a second.
In fact, I use this second technique more often than the dual-pane.

Hmm. I'm not seeing this activity.

When I have 2 panes open, and I want to copy a file from the second to the first, XY won't let me just drag a file from the inactive pane immediately. Instead, I have to click inside the inactive pane, and then I can drag to copy a file into the other (now inactive) pane. It's as if the first file selection doesn't get fired for me.

Sometimes it does work going from the left (inactive) to the right pane, but it never works straight from a drag from the right (inactive) to the left. The popup to show the file operation never shows until I go back, click the right pane, and then perform the drag-drop.

Hum, strange,
Check this too:

Code: Select all

Configuration >
General >
Menus, Mouse, Usuability >
Mouse >
[X] Point to select
[X] Allow dragging from a background window
PS. I couldn't find if there is an option to make one of the two panels active on mouseover (function called “Hover to switch Source/destination state, after xxxx milliseconds” (in Dopus)). This is usefull. I like to have this in XY

Thanks for the tips. I checked the settings and I didn't have point to select option checked. I've enabled that and it does, after a short delay, activate the pane on hover, so that is a slight improvement. The downside is that that option actually then selects the file that happens to be under the pointer.
