Which file type is selected when you open the menu?

I have the above described problem with
all video files (MP4, AVI)
all web files (HTM, HTML, MHT, MHTL)
PDF files
practically everything above line 99

everything below the sub-menu attempt is working fine

additional comment and question :

as you see, I tried inserting a menu sub-divider
"- - - - - - - - -"
XYplorer complained about exe file missing in this line
so I used a tiny exe called "Do Nothing" that does what it says
so if I were to accidentally hit the divider - no error message happens

but this "Do Nothing.exe" occasionally give me problems
so here is my question :
how can I insert a divider - so that the menu
can be visually divided in segments ?

I noticed that the definitions you posted don't include any "TXT Files." I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I'm wasting my time with this. It all seems pretty chaotic. Let's get focused, get your stuff together, isolate the problem, and post a minimal setup that can reproduce the issue.

OK, I see Your point,
and I respect Your time.

That is why I did not post my list initially
(my stuff does contain some idiosyncratic items which might confuse You)
hoping that You can reproduce it on
ANY sub-menu You create.

Did You try just that ?
If You did that, You might have mentioned it,
so that I do not waste my time either
and - believe me - my time is NOT inferior to Yours.
Clear communication (and respect) is a two way street.
It is not about me "getting my act together",
I was waiting for You to try it on ANY example,
and only it that fails (which You did not clearly state)
was I to dig into my examples.

I will create a TXT File example shortly
and send it to You.

I am not a fussy customer,
I am trying to help You develop a better software.
Here is someone who actually IS using this function in Your software,
and I just gave You a new idea.

My respectful Thanks.

TXT example coming up in a few minutes.

OK, here we go :

Place the next example ANYWHERE in the middle of Your CFA list,
and see what happens to ALL the items above.

+TXT Files
+ "Em Editor|C:\Portable\XYplorer\Data\Icons\exe.ico"txt>C:\Portable\Em Editor\EmEditor.exe
+ "Note Tab|C:\Portable\XYplorer\Data\Icons\exe.ico"txt>C:\Portable\Note Tab\NoteTab.exe

Of course, You will have to substitute with Your own paths.

On my system, all the items above that entry disappear.

I did not give You this example,
because You ALREADY HAD IT on the top of this post.

All we need is Your answer and instantly we have full clarity :
1. if You also get it, then it is a bug
-> and You will deal with it,
2. if You do not get it, then it is a quirk purely in my settings
-> and I will sort it out (i.e. clean it up).

Thanks again.

Works fine here.

Remember that the composition of the menu is controlled by the type of file currently selected.

Thank You for Your response.

You were able to rule out a bug,
and I now know that this new stuff works fine,
the bug was on my side (my settings).

Cheers !

Just got around to testing this, It is only cosmetic issue, but I noticed that if you use a script with a icon, when you indent it the icon isn't shown any longer in the CFA dialog, instead the default :script icon is shown, although the actual menu shows the correct icon.

Up until now I haven't been able to use this feature because in my normal config it would cause many entries to become missing.

I have tried unsuccessfully a few times in the past to narrow down the issue so I didn't have to have you trawling through my hundreds of CFA entries trying to narrow it down, anyway finally today I persisted and was eventually able to make a repro based on minimal entries.

So if you go to a folder that has an image and say an ini file and use this CFA list,

Code: Select all

+|"Properties" *>#173;
+Image
+  |{:Image}>#178;
+  |{:Image}>#1003;
+txt>notepad
If you then press the OpenWith btn on the Image, you should see 2 entries, Properties and the image menu = correct, but if you try it on a ini file there are no entries = wrong, because the Properties entry should be showing. If the bottom entry is disabled then it works correctly.

Just tried .0308, and the example above now works  , but there are still issues, in my main config I still have missing items for entries that should show up for all files.

I have noticed though that if I include an entry in the submenu for all filetypes, then my missing entries above the submenu show up, but of course I get an unwanted submenu on all items, alternatively if I place the entries below the submenu (higher index) then they also show up, and strangely, I have just now realized, if I use only a hyphen as the submenu caption then everything works correctly, but that only works if there aren't doubled up dividers, else it changes from a caption into dbl divider, and completely missing submenu.

When I get a chance I guess I will try to make up another minimalist repro, it could take a while though.

edit: If I try and use more than one submenu, each dedicated to different filetypes then it also causes all submenus to be completely missing for their targeted filetypes, up till now I had only been testing 1 submenu which had been causing missing entries, ones that should show for all filetypes (eg above repro), but 2+ submenus causes the opposite = missing whole submenu for the specific filetypes.
