Select files
Select files
Hello! Is there a way to select files in the file panel with the right mouse button in Xyplorer (like in Total commander)

Re: Select files
Um, yes. What's the problem?
Perhaps checking this will reproduce your TC experience: Tools | Customize List | Full Row Select

Re: Select files
I think Roman search if this is possible to reverse mouse button for select. (in XY, not in Windows himself)
In TC, reverse mouse selection mode:
Configuration > Options > Operation > Mouse selection mode
(*) Use right mouse button (as in NC) - context menu after 1 second
( ) Left mouse button (Windows standard)
I don't know if this is possible in XY ? (I think this is useless because there is few users that use TC the way they used to use NC (Norton Commander) or MC (Midnight Commander under Linux).)
In XY, you can make multiple selections in several ways with the mouse (and without adding a keyboard key)
- Display and use checkboxes
- Use sticky selection
- Display the “Line number” column and click on the line numbers (This technique is very interesting: it corresponds to TC's way of selecting when you click on the icon alone).

Ohhh... Norton Commander... bringing back sweet memories...
But I got used to the Windows way...
I don't think that's something Don is very keen of adding since there isn't a big audience of people interested in it.
If you're kind enough and he thinks it's easy to solve, he might probably add a tweak (undocumented ini option) to switch mouse buttons, but that's up to him to decide.

Re: Select files
Well...... unlikely.

Re: Select files
Not only Total commander, but all other file managers I've worked with (at least ten) provide right-click selection. Probably their creators wouldn't have thought of such a feature either, if it wasn't convenient and popular. Also, all my friends and acquaintances who use file managers use this feature.
Re: Select files
Well it's good to know you have alternatives.
Re: Select files
Well, I don't know (personally).
Don probably won't change his mind until he's done rewriting XY in twinBasic. And since we don't know how he's getting along with that (or if he's still waiting for some additions/fixes done to twinBasic), that still might take a while…
But if some additional people would start to voice their opinions towards adding that feature… I don't know… If it's not too complicated, maybe Don might change his mind…
@Don: Your comment wasn't exactly clear on that matter if you don't see potential for that feature or if your think it's actually difficult to do.

Re: Select files
I don't see the point. Why not use the left-click for what it's used since day one of the mouse?

Re: Select files
Why? Because your middle finger is longer than your index finger?

Re: Select files
Well… if you're using the mouse left-handed… yeah, maybe.
Personally, I don't care. And as long as you seem to be the only one, I can totally see Don's point. Like I said, if there were more people interested in that feature…
Re: Select files
I wonder if comments in this forum are the only way for a respected developer to get feedback from users?
Have you tried doing something like a poll to find out the need for the most requested but unrealized features?

Re: Select files
One convincing argument would do.
