Cache Thumbnails Multiple Folders

Post by mattd »

Hello

Apologies if already been posted which I presume it would have, I have had a look but could not see anything.

New to XYplorer, I have been through some of the basic settings but not joy.

We have migrated from on prem file server to azure file server and a staff member is experiencing issues with thumbnails not displaying, hence the reason for XYplorer.

They have multiple folders containing large TIFF images.

Whilst each folder does (eventually) show the thumbnail when opened is it possible to scan the all the folders in one go for thumbnails so:

Thumbnails are displayed when folder is opened, and user is not waiting a considerable amount of time (some folders contain lots of images)

Any help / assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks :)

Take a look at the Thumbnail Maintenance script here. There are options for building thumbs in the current folder and subs.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I had no joy with the script. I would have though more people would be having the same issue; I presumed that this was what the application was for. I must be doing something wrong as it is just not working properly at all.

In my humble opinion, XYplorer is not by default an image management program. The developer has given us the ability to create thumbnails for all images in a given folder, but will not descend into sub-folders. You must touch each folder individually. XYplorer can cache thumbnails so the first access to the folder creates and stores the thumbnails. Subsequent folder access will display thumbnails instantly (any new/updated images will have a thumbnail created and stored.) I have attached the thumbnail configuration settings I use. Please note I created a specific cache path folder and "Cache thumbnails on disk" and "Create all thumbnails at once" must be ticked on.

I'm not sure what "no joy" actually means. Did you unzip the script file and place it in your XYplorer script folder and copy the icons within the zip into your XYplorer icon folder? Then make a toobar button that refers to the script. I just setup a test folder and subfolders containing images and it ran through the current folder and all subs building the thumbnails with no issues using the 3rd menu option, "Build Thumbnail cache...current folder and subs".

Agreed klownboy, I have no idea what "no joy" means. We did our part to help.
