.wav files autoplay but .mp3 files don't.

Post by BenevolentDeity »

When I select a .wav file it starts playing immediately, but when I select a .mp3 file just a "start" icon appears and I must click it to play the file. I've looked in the settings and I don't see any difference between how the .wav and .mp3 files are configured. I'm using Win10 with all the latest updates. I haven't knowingly added any 3rd party codecs and both types of files play on VLC.

If you are using version 26.70+, enable this:

Configuration | Preview | Preview | Audio/Video preview | [x] Use native handling in the preview pane

@Don: Just a suggestion, maybe you could consider displaying the album art (if avail) when this setting is enabled, at least in the Preview Pane which is entirely blank, if not also in the the Panel when it is solely active. XY already has this ability eg. if you add mp3 to Preview as Thumbnail, just not currently possible simultaneously with playback.

26.90.0104 - I am sure I am doing something wrong, but when I preview an MP3 file the embedded cover art is not displayed. Question, would this at some point also work with FLAC files?

It shows in the Preview Pane (Ctrl+F11).

Next beta will support FLAC files.

Ctrl+F11 does nothing. I have to click Window -> Show Preview Pane. Still no image.

fresh; worked, but of course all of my preferences are gone. In Menu -> Window, Ctrl+F11 is displayed with Show Preview Pane.

Do I need to stick with "fresh" and redo all of my preferences or is there something in the configuration file that needs to be changed? Or is there another file I can change/delete?

fresh; is just a means to blame it on some setting. Now the question is which. What have you done for MP3 in Configuration | Preview | Previewed Formats?

Even better than pictures: send your INI file to support. :)
