Lost Names of Mapped Network Drives with v26.80.0000.

Post by AgentSmith007 »

With previous version 26.70.0600 mapped networked drives looked in XY the same way as in Windows' File Explorer.
After updating to v26.80.0000 mapped drives look like this:

They look correctly in Windows' File Explorer:

Thanks.

I installed 26.80.0002.

Networked computers that were on got their names back. The ones that were off still showed Drive (S:), Drive (P:).

Also, letters that are assigned to mapped drives are now located after the names, compare to my local drives where letters (C:), (D:), (E:), (F:), (G:), (H:) are located before the names.

Here is screenshot.

Mapped drive names in XY follow shell conventions. I can't explain or replicate what you're seeing. I also can't see the "Drive" prefix for unavailable network drives. :?

Are you using any3rd party skins?
Which Windows version is this?

PS: okay, you probably edited HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShowDriveLettersFirst, right?

I used either Ultimate Windows Tweaker or Winaero Tweaker to put drive letters before labels (names).

I have Windows 10 Education Edition 22H2.
Here is quote from some website:
Windows 10 Education builds on Windows 10 Enterprise, and is designed to meet the needs of schools – staff, administrators, teachers and students. This edition will be available through academic Volume Licensing, and there will be paths for schools and students using Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro devices to upgrade to Windows 10 Education.

Thanks. Assuming it sets ShowDriveLettersFirst=4 behind the curtain, it should work in the next beta.

I installed v26.80.0102 beta on another PC - Windows 10 Pro 22H2. It still shows drive letter of mapped network drive after the label.

XY just supports the ShowDriveLettersFirst registry key. Don't know what other magic your tweakers are doing.

I decided to try and installed 26.80.0203. Well, magically, drive letters went back to before labels.
Even with WIN106402 PC is off XY shows drive letter and label. With previous 26.80.XXXX versions it showed Drive (S:).

Hooray!

Windows 10 EDU 22H2.

I shut down 4 out of 6 networked PCs and rebooted my main PC to see how XY behaves.

PCs that are turned on are shown OK. PCs that are turned off show Drive (LETTER:)

Windows' File Explorer shows all mapped drives for all networked PCs that are either on or off with drive letters before labels.

Can't reproduce. What do you get with a fresh instance (fresh;)?

I assume that fresh; is a script command, so I ran it in the Script windows.
