I have a folder on local computer shared and mapped as a drive. It is my programs folder, so lots of exe files. When I try to run an exe from the mapped location from xyplorer, I get not accessible, yet all other sub folders and files can open without a problem. I notice that within the mapped drive, all the folders and files show a shortcut link rather the file itself. the exe files show symlink.
Windows explorer doesn't show a shortcut link for same files, but also cannot access the file. Says I do not have permissions.
Anyone have any idea what might be occuring.

Re: Simlink on Shared Drive
Sorry but be more specific^^
Your "programs folder". Which one?
Check the permissions, you probably need admin rights to access them via a mapped drive letter?

Code: Select all
%ProgramFiles%
%ProgramFiles(x86)%
%ProgramW6432%

Re: Simlink on Shared Drive
Sorry...by programs folder, I meant a folder that I store all programs downloaded or copied from a CD. That point doesn't really matter, except that I have several executables and I can open any other file types without issue on that mapped drive except the executables.
When I go to the mapped(original) location on the local drive, I can run those executables.
As far as I can tell, I am administrator and have full access. I also added my username and did the same. No dice.

Re: Simlink on Shared Drive
incidentally, I have the same exact setup on a few computers, but none of them say symlink when accessing the folder through the mapped folder.
All of my mapped locations on this particular computer to several local folders show symlink. Again, no other computers do this but I use the same setup. Not sure how symlink is sneaking into this problematic computer.
Is there a setting somewhere either in xyplorer or windows directly?

Re: Simlink on Shared Drive
Show a screenshot of the mapped folder (the new drive letters one) and the properties of one of those .exe you can't run
Additionally show a screenshot of the error message
And no, at least XY doesn't create symlinks by default

Re: Simlink on Shared Drive
what is Mh?
I've been searching long and hard for how to map a shared folder without symbolic links. I just cannot figure out how that is occurring on this one machine but not 8 others. Some off setting somewhere I suppose in windows.
