Viewing EaseUS PBD backup files

Although this question appears to deal with "other software," I'm posting here because my query is about viewing a file's contents...

I use EaseUS ToDo Backup Workstation and have been doing so for many years. Great program.

However, when I try to open a backup file (.PBD) in XY, it spawns a window in Windows File Mangler (sic) (WFM). Apparently, EaseUS has it set that way because they can be sure that everyone has the WFM on their system and it's not known if EaseUS even knows about XY.

Is there a way to get that file (.PBD) opened for viewing in XY? I'm attaching a couple of screenshots so you can see what it looks like in WFM.

If by "open" you mean preview, you can try adding pbd to the extensions in Configuration | Preview | Previewed Formats | Categories | Document Files. This will preview PDB files in the Preview tab and Preview pane, IF you have an appropriate preview handler on your system.

I contacted EaseUS. Here's our thread...

I use a Windows File Explorer (WFE) alternative program (XYPlorer [XY]). However, PBD files always open in WFE. Is there a code/GUID for the PBD viewer so that I can add it to XY?

Sorry that our image is not compatible with XYPlorer, it is accessible in Windows file explorer only.

Well, XY has the capability to add an extension IF the file viewer handler exists in Windows. So it seems that it must exist in Windows, otherwise WFE could not display it. So I'm confused.

XYPlorer is not the same as WFE, we didn't make our image to compatible with other softwares. But I'll transfer your suggestion to our R&D team to improve in future versions.

Thank you. XY has a huge international user base. IMO, it is far superior to WFE and it just gets better and better with every version. And it just does not slow down! I don't know how Don (the developer does it!). It would be a worthwhile improvement to ToDo backup.

Hopefully, they'll do something. Meanwhile, I just have to use Windows File Mangler (sic)

Oh, maybe you expect PBD files to be browsable like the regular file system? This won't happen, because it's not something a preview handler can handle.

Most such Backup tools can mount a backup file as a drive.
Does EaseUS not have such an option?

I use Macrium Reflect.
Even the free version supports this.
With the mounted drive, one can use any file manager to browse, view or copy files.

I recommend taking a look at Syncovery. It has the ability to create backup copies of files to any Cloud in parallel, it can synchronize files with any destination in real time/after the file is changed, which is very useful for programmers...
