Disk Cloner

Post by admin »

Acronis stopped working after 10 years. Well.

Can you recommend a disk cloner (that can also clone system partitions)? (I'm willing to pay, but not for an "annual plan" or any other kind of subscription. Just give me a license and leave me alone).

I already looked at AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard, which claimed to be freeware ("Clone hard drive or partition from one to another for backup." -- Download Freeware), but then nagged me with tons of buy buttons and refused to do anything without starting a yearly subscription. So fuck them.

Bought my license mh, 10 years ago, used it countless times (IFL - Image for Linux from a usb boot stick).
The bundle contains everything, including a software to install under Windows to clone things...

Download the trial(s) if you are not sure if you should buy it or not^^

When I ditched Acronis many, many years ago, I started using Macrium Reflect Home. It's a great backup solution that can also clone full discs. I'm not certain if one can close individual partitions from a disc. There is a thirty day free trail available. Unfortunately, they have just introduced their latest version, ReflectX and they've changed to a subscription model. I started with Reflect 6 and will have to stick with Reflect 8 as I too, refuse to support subscription software. There's been a major uproar on their forum well in advance of this but apparently the powers that be at Macrium decided to ignore their huge user base.

You might find this helpful. It's from their online help.

Aomei Partition Assistant Pro lifetime license: https://www.aomei.de/partition-manager/buy-pro.html?prevod=%2Fpartition-manager%2Findex

Purchased it some years ago (to evaluate the Pro features over a long time in comparison with Acronis) as a combo with Backupper. They regularily do sales.

Last year, Acronis has been kissed by sanity and they re-introduced the classical license (the cyber protection plans hadn't really worked out, me thinks ^^). Of course, they hide it from new customers as best as they can (I got the offer from within my running 2019 version). But their long-time sales partner EDV-Buchversand doesn't play tricks: https://www.edv-buchversand.de/acronis/true-image-2025. Yeah, the prices went up as well, but that's the current reality.

2025 con: you need to login to your account to run it (I had one for all my licenses anyway).
2025 pro: the cyber crap became an option.

Cool, thanks!

In the meantime I found "Aomei Backupper Pro - Vollversion (1-Jahres-Lizenz)" at CHIP.de (for free!). It seems to work, cloning is running right now. :) If it's good I'll go for the lifetime license.

By the way, I'm making the jump now. XY will be developed on Win11 soon.

You can try file synchronization via Syncovery and disk cloning via Macrorit...
