Looking at the code, I cannot see how this could not work :eh: By the way, it's independent of auto-refresh.

Possibly something undocumented in the MS API that is triggered under certain conditions?

I don't think so.

But your tree is gray. Are you using a locked tree?

Hard to difinitively recall the focused tab. The screen shot was edited and I removed some of the tabs to the right as they made some proprietary references.

However, I don't use locked tabs, I set a Home and use Home Zone and believe that would have been the state of the tab in focus.

A locked tree (Tools | Customize Tree | Lock Tree) is not a locked tab. Why is your tree gray?

If you're referring to the background color, that's the color I selected. I've changed many of the Xy colors.

Don, I finally have a reproduceable scenario, hope this helps.
Below, I am editing an existing icon using Greenfish Icon Editor Pro 4.0
  • I added a black border and exported the change to the same file
  • XY does not show the update
  • Win File Explorer immediately shows the update
  • Even after hitting all the XY refresh options, restarting XY, and restarting the PC, the update is not shown
  • However, after restarting the PC, selecting icon and selecting Refresh Selected Thumbnails the icon is updated

I was actually able to reproduce this weird thing. It's specific to ICO files. ICO files are kept in a special cache by Windows, and they are sometimes a bit stubborn. But I'm surprised how stubborn they are! Not even restarting the process (XYplorer) helps! I don't have a solution at the moment. XY lives in the truth told by Windows :|

PS: If you duplicate the file, you will see that the duplicate will be updated correctly. So two 100% identical files show different icons, thumbnails, previews. Unreal.

Hello, I don't think this bug is related to this discussion, but I'll explain it here, instead of in a separate post. I can reproduce it every time. I think this problem is pretty minor. I'm using the wonderful mod 'Rapid Access' folders for last few weeks, but recently I used the tree area itself to try to delete folders, and small folder branches, just some simple maintenance. When I select a folder, then use Rht-clk, delete, or the delete key, or the toolbar delete button, I get an XY message 'Remove ...\TestFolder\ from Rapid Access? ...with 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons. Pick 'OK', msg goes away, nothing happens. Folder stays focused. Same delete operation in the 'list' area produces the correct warning for the normal 'Delete Folder' to the Recycle Bin I'm expecting, with everything working just fine. ---Just not in tree area under 'Rapid Access', or even in lower tree area through 'This PC' access to folders. This happens every time. According to the help file, it should work in the tree itself, but I'm never sure I haven't screwed up anywhere...

Unrelated to the above 'delete' problem, a few days back I 'moved' a folder to a new branch with the mouse Lft-clk, using the tree itself, which worked just fine, and later realized the tree still had the now 'ghost' folder left from the ori move. When I tried to select it, got a system message something like-- "system error, path does not exist" (basically), and could not focus it. Tried F5, no luck, exited and restarted XY, ..still there. Looked in Win explr, ,,not there. Restarted windows, now XY was correct. Tried to reproduce that error, moving folders w & wo files, subfolders, etc using the tree itself, never happened again.

I took a grab of the XY msg, if needed, and I'm posting this long-winded amateur testing in case it has any value, perhaps mostly in the simplistic system I'm running, haha...

ver 26.70.0400, Win 10 home, all updates, C: drv only, no network BS, little customizing, at least for now. Stand-alone install, not into the OS, and a serious fan of XY.

Confirmed! And surprised no one noticed this before. Actually, only the top folder in a RAF branch should get the "Remove from Rapid Access" treatment, subfolders should be treated like normal folders (i.e. delete to recycler or permanent). Fixed in next beta.

Let me know if you can repeat it. It was probably just a Windows hiccup. And it stayed in the mini tree (was it?) because you checked "Configuration | General | Controls & More | Miscellaneous | Allow zombies in the Mini Tree", did you?

Can't repeat it, I'm also betting on the win hiccup.. Yes to mini tree, Yes to 'Allow zombies...' , BUT, it was already checked, and I swear I don't remember ever being buried that deep in the config area... haha, which doesn't really hold much water at my advanced age.

You hear about self-checking options from time to time... :)
