Delete on moving duplicate

Post by christian777 »

Hello,
new user's first post here, so please forgive me.
When I want to move a file and it already exists at the destination, I would like to have another option: "Delete source". This would mean to keep the existing target but also get rid of the source file without an extra delete operation.

Most likely this function is already available but hidden from me anyway.
Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the club!

This request is a bit unusual, I have never heard of such a functionality. But the result of an overwrite is identical, so why not just overwrite?

Well, yesterday I noticed there are image files that appearently contain altered metadata, but otherwise they are identical to the source files. So overwriting would destroy the updated metadata.

So the files were not true duplicates. Does that mean you are just talking about name collisions? In that case, deleting the source would be pretty drastic.

Yes, I agree. But in my use case I would like to have the choice. Because I know what I do.
Of course, I could select "Skip" and press the Delete button after. But that's complicated when it occurs during multiple file copy.

Imho: Yeah, if this (setting) would be set wrong it has drastic results.
Probably too dangerous...

Doesn't need to be a setting. Only additional choice in the copy conflict dialog.

Too exotic, too dangerous.

However, it can be done by a script.

OK. Just wanted to give it a try.

I love about XYplorer that everything can be done by scripting
