Closes unexpectedly after unzipping archives

Post by molmole »

Hi,

XYPLORER closes unexpectedly after unzipping archives an when I re-open it, it doesn't remember the last locations status, otherwise it opens to the tabs from the last normally closing session. Does anyone know what to do?

Thanks,

XY version?
OS version?
Which archive types?
On all of them or single ones?

Provide such an archive via a file hoster (dropbox, ...)
Make a copy of your XYplorer.ini file, change the extension to xys, attach it to the next post

Hi highend,

Thanks for your reply. I attached the file you asked for and other info are as follows:
XY version: 26.30.0100 (note that I was facing this issue with older versions too)
OS version: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, build: 22631.3958
All archive types and with all applications as long as they have an entry in the context menu, also with the build in unzip feature already packed with XYplorer.
On one of the installs only. I have another issue with the other install in the laptop. I'll describe it in another post or here after this one gets sorted.
This problems happens with all archives not specific one/s, however, I uploaded some examples to mediafire, below is the link:

Can't replicate that issue here...

v26.30.0100 with your XYplorer.ini and the BZR-Player-2.0.70.zip file
Right clicked on that file, Zip - Extract to BZR-Player-2.0.70\

That's the internal XY unzip method (in fact the inbuilt zip integration of Windows) and it works flawlessly, no crash after finishing the extraction...

So you're a 100% sure that it fails on your system with the exact same steps that I've used here?

Another test: Create a fresh XY instance
Type fresh; in the address bar and hit the {ENTER} key
Do the same steps in that instance again, still a crash?

Btw, I've removed your XYplorer.xys from your post, you still had the license info in it ;)

I followed both ways and the results were as before.

BTW, how to keep the fresh instant of the program?

Thanks for removing the file :)

And extracting the same archive via Windows Explorer works flawlessly?

Activate this setting in XY and try again:
Configuration | General | Menus, Mouse, Usability | Context Menus | [x] Hide shell extensions from shell context menu

The data that the fresh version is using will be stored in <XY data folder>\Fresh
Several steps would be required to make a "normal, fresh, portable" version out of it, it's easier to just download the portable .zip XY file from the website

The last solution helped and problem solved, thanks.

Would you please help me with something else for the same machine, the menu that used to appear when I click on the horizontal lines in either of the two panes disappeared, you'll know what I mean when you see the attached screenshot. Any idea how to get it back?

I wouldn't call that a solution...
You have a shell extension that leads to this behaviour

You could get http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
and deactivate every single shell extension (one at a time) to find the one that leads to this behaviour...

Regarding the hamburger menu: Right click it, "Customize Menu..."
Does that window show any content?

This is the default content in a fresh instance, remove the 1 and paste it:

Code: Select all

I'm very thankful to you, you did me great :)

I have another install in my laptop, and it doesn't have the previous issues, it works fine except, though it's registered, when I copy or move files, the program became unusable like the free version. Can you tell me what might causes this?

Unusable like the free version? Explain that in more detail and show a screenshot of the:
Configuration | File Operations | File Operations
page...

I can't use XYplorer while coping or moving files as you can see from the screenshot.
