Cached Thumbnails either not cached or retrieved.
Cached thumbnails either not cached or retrieved. ALT+F6 creates thumbnails in current folder, move out of current folder, then return and no thumbnails.

Hm. Here is my first question: What did you assign ALT+F6 to?

Re: Cached Thumbnails either not cached or retrieved.
What it's always been assigned: "Create Missing Thumbnails"
List View = View Thumbnails #1 (240x320) > No Thumbnails Displayed (278 files, 30 folders) > Alt+F6 > All Thumbnails Generated (as expected) > Switch List View to Different Folder > Switch Back to Folder where the 278 files, 30 folders Thumbnails where just created = No Thumbnails (not expected).
Checked = Cache thumbnails on disk
Checked = Show cached thumbnails only
Cache Path = Valid Path (if Checked = Resolve cache path from current folder, then same unexpected results)

And the thumbnail folder contains... (screenshot incl. full path)?

Re: Cached Thumbnails either not cached or retrieved.
I don't understand your question. The thumbnail folder contain: *.ini, *.dbits, XYThumbs.txt
Thumbnail Folder:
fe27923b80e38fdb1455b2d33f284f71.ini
XYThumbs.txt
AFTER ALT+F6 MOVE TO OTHER FOLDER AND RETURN TO PREVIOUSLY CACHED ALT+F6 FOLDER

Re: Cached Thumbnails either not cached or retrieved.
No effect, same outcome.
The XY thumbnail cache is there, but apparently XY isn't -- reading and/or displaying the thumbnails.

Re: Cached Thumbnails either not cached or retrieved.
- It doesn't work in a fresh instance with default settings (only change: [x] Show cached thumbnails only)?
- Is this behaviour new or did it work in an older XY version?
I tried it with a fresh current beta, setting the options for Preview - Thumbnails as in your first screenshot.
Apart from the different sizes for the widths and heights
No problems here with: Have no thumbnails, generate them, change folder, come back -> Thumbnails are shown...

Re: Cached Thumbnails either not cached or retrieved.
I know it shouldn't make a difference, but have you tried the same scenario but temporarily place the same or similar pictures in a different folder like "C:\Temp" (i.e., someplace other than "C:\Users\...")? And as highend mentioned, uncheck "Show cached thumbnails only".

Re: Cached Thumbnails either not cached or retrieved.
UNCHECKED = "Show cached thumbnails only" = Displays the thumbnails, but they are ALWAYS RECREATED EACH TIME, which is unacceptable due to time required to generate some types of thumbnails and number of files. Further, the "ESC" to terminate the building of all the thumbnails doesn't respond anymore (this seems to be a major issue when thumbnails are being created under a 'folder' to generate the associated thumbnail).
I don't remember when it "stopped" working, it's been some time, and some newer image types take considerable processing time to generate a thumbnail.
What I find odd is that the images are cached based on the files generated. Yet, there is absolutely NO error message indicating there was some problem reading the cached thumbnails.
If the cache path is empty, contains a valid path, or uses the same folder as the images for the thumbnails, the result is the same, NO displayed cached thumbnails.

Tried your setup, cannot reproduce your problem.

Re: Cached Thumbnails either not cached or retrieved.
Thanks, got it.
However, everything works as it should. (Of course I had to change the hard-coded cache path to something that exists on my system.)

Re: Cached Thumbnails either not cached or retrieved.
Must be a figment of my imagination. Too bad there isn't any way to determine the anomaly and resolve.
