And if the belonging files are NOT inside a OneDrive folder, thumbnail generation fails as well?

Are you running multiple instances using the same thumbnail cache folder (see Configuration | General | Startup & Exit | Allow multiple instances)?

I copied part of the directory in a USB key and the thumnail generation seems to work well.

please note that on the original directory (somwhere in my OneDrive), the mis-generation of the thumbnails is not systematic.
Sometimes it works. But once they are mis-generated, I need to scrap everything and start again

here is the startup config.
it can happen that sometimes 2 instances of XYplorer are started, because either they are so slow to appear, either because they start as minimized (I have to click on the tray icon to get it on full screen)
Should I remove "allow multiple instances" checkbox ? just to see if this nagging behavbiour does not appar in the newt days/weeks ?

If both instances read/write the same cache files, corruption like the one in your screenshot can occur.

I see. Until you find some workaround, I will prohibit more than one instance in the settings

How comes that XY plorer starts minimized ? this is the reason why i am sometimes tempted to click twice to start it...
is there any setting to prevent that and force it to open the normal sized window ?

Thanks for your help anyway
