Basic New User Questions

Post by xanthareel »

I figure these questions are more for support than a community forum, but I didn't get a response to my email so here I am. Is there any other way to get support, like Discord maybe?

When I first get XYPlorer I have a 30 day free trial. What happens if I get the portable version, how do I update it once I buy a license?

What is the point of a 2nd pane? It seems like both have tabs for different locations so there's no difference and I see no point in having 2.

I read something about you having a feature called Paper that is like Collections in Directory Opus. What does that feature do?

- There is no Discord channel
- Like an installed version as well: Menu Help - Online Support - Check for Updates
- You can see two different places at the same time without needing to switch tabs?

How do I create, edit, and delete Paper folders? I looked through that link but it doesn't say how to do that. I also couldn't find it on the UI anywhere.

First of, press F1 for Help files and search Paper Folder there to get basic info. To try it, not the only but the easiest way: right lick on toolbar > customize > add button that looks like white/grey paper plane = that's the button to create PFs(right lick on this button has some PF settings).

If this did not have 2 panes, I would not have installed it--let alone purchase it. It's great for moving around a lot of files to different folders. It's great for always having your main directory open in one pane so you can use the other pane for a separate hard drive location, etc. I might want to have Downloads always open but have Documents open in the other pane. I always am moving mp3's after I edit them to another location. I work with 50-75 mp3s a day. There are many other reasons, but those are the biggies for me.

Since Don runs this company entirely on his own, we (the community) are doing Support here in the forums... at least for lesser issues, since Don is always busy coding and adding features... Well... He's around, too, and answering more difficult or technical questions, or when directly adressed...

The 2nd pane is mostly an integrated second window, so you can easily move around files or directories, copying or moving them from one pane to the other.
