Questions about the Help

Post by KLASS »

Keyboard Shortcuts and Mouse Tricks => Live Filter Box => Shift+Alt+Wheel - Change the width of the box.
Keyboard Shortcuts and Mouse Tricks => Other =>
Alt+F12 - Last Size/Minimize Info Panel (Miscellaneous | Layout | Last Size/Minimize Info Panel)
Shift+F12 - Maximize/Minimize Info Panel (Miscellaneous | Layout | Maximize/Minimize Info Panel)
Why are these working keyboard shortcuts removed from the help?

And the new CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+F12 combination doesn't work at all.
You have to assign this shortcut first, but you can also assign another shortcut!
For example, CTRL+SHIFT+4.

Shift+Alt+Wheel - has been moved to Mouse Tricks.

I think I understand, all these combinations now go by default in a NOT configured (empty) program, and in a configured program the old combinations remain by default.

Keyboard shortcuts in Help refer to the fresh instance, i.e. they are the factory defaults. New keyboard shortcuts are not auto-enabled for upgraders, too dangerous.

If you click on a link in the help and then press the back button, the transition is not to the place of the clicked link, but to the beginning of the topic.

CHM files are opened by hh.exe. The whole thing is written by Microsoft, not by me.

Everyone's CHM files open with hh.exe, but our help files work differently. So I was wondering why this is so? I compile HTML files with HTML Help Workshop (also Microsoft).

I see, you are right. I am using a software called Help & Manual. There is no option to change the behavior of these buttons. I can't do anything. :|

@KLASS one option you could do is decompile the help file into a folder (using hh.exe -decompile) and use the help from there. you could also possibly decompile and then re-compile using hh.exe and that may work.

using the back and forward buttons in the extracted folder works perfectly (since it is displayed in a browser). this is what i do since i reformat a few of the help files for better viewing and inside the browser i can use gestures, dark/light mode, etc.

I took the Help & Manual 7 program and imported your XYplorer.chm help file. Without changing any settings (only removing the title) in the program I exported (published) and everything worked as it should.

Hi All,

may I add, that using the PDF version of the help file , most PDF viewers should also support a Back button.

Best regards, Markus

Tried to do the same thing but in Help & Manual v5.1.0 build 730. Import=>Export, everything works as it should. Try to do the same for yourself!

Tried it with 5.3 but the result was identical. Nothing changed.
