[SOLVED] CFA: open PDFs with installed SumatraPDF shows UAC

Post by matewo »

Hi All,

I might have configured something wrong: I...
  • am using XYplorer in portable mode (not installed)
  • have installed Notepad++, SumatraPDF and Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is associated with PDF files
  • have SumatraPDF configured in CFA (pdf>\Path\To\SumatraPDF.exe), as well as Notepad++ (txt>notepad++)

When I double click a PDF file or use context menu > Open with... (the CFA way) > SumatraPDF, I get the UAC for XYplorer: "Do you want ... to make changes to this device?". Independently, if I agree (button YES), or disagree (button NO), SumatraPDF is successfully opened with the correct file.

When I use context menu > Open with...(the CFA way) > Adobe Acrobat (associated app), I do not get any UAC.

When I use context menu > Open with...(the CFA way) > Notepad++ to open a text file, I do not get any UAC.

When I use context menu > Open with (Windows standard way!) > SumatraPDF, I do not get any UAC in both 32-bit and 64-bit context menu.

Any ideas, how I could get rid of the UAC prompt for SumatraPDF in CFA?

Thanks and best regards, Markus

I don't understand why you get UAC for simply open applications which normal files.
Do you all the time try to open protected documents for which your account doesn't have any rights?
Windows 11 Home, Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.7171)
Portable x64 XYplorer (Actual version, including betas)
Display settings 1920 x 1080 Scale 100%
Everything 1.5.0.1400a (x64), Everything Toolbar 2.1.0, Listary Pro 6.3.6.99

That's my point - I don't understand this either.

I don't think so. I can open a PDF file using the XYplorer built in Open with..., getting the UAC dialog. Opening the same PDF file using the Windows standard Open with >, I don't get the UAC dialog. I have checked the tested PDF files, same situation with blocked ("this file ... might be blocked ...") and unblocked files.

Thanks and best regards

I solved the issue. Although installed, I had to unblock the binary file SumatraPDF.exe: file properties > "this file ... might be blocked ..." ==> Unblock.

Thanks for your support nontheless!
